Thanks for your write up and impressions.
You're right about having more fun on a bike that's slow that you can ride to its limits versus a fast bike you ride slow. Your track time reminds of me this:

I actually sort of expect the feedback with regards to the handling of the C400 GT. This is the advantage of a smaller displacement bike that weighs less than a bigger bike. While I have two liter sport bikes and do track time on an S1000RR, I've been kicking around the idea of getting a Ninja...
I didn't know the C400GT doesn't have cruise control. This might be a deal killer for me if I want to add another scoot to my inventory. I currently have a 2016 C650 Sport. There are many times I wished my Sport has integrated cruise as my 2022 S1000RR has it. But I get that there's a...
No one can tell with the picture you posted. You need to take a much better picture and from what I recall, you need to focus on the left side of the picture you took. That should be where the hydraulic line is if you have the hydraulic tensioner.
The dealer won't just install the hydraulic one if the TSB doesn't call for it. As far as BMW is concerned for certain 2016s, the mechanical tensioner is what goes in. Hence why my dealer couldn't find anything about a hydraulic tensioner retrofit for my VIN. BMW won't reimburse for work that...
What 2016 manual? The only information I've found is a TSB for prior years stating the fix for a failed mechanical tensioner is the hydraulic tensioner retrofit. My dealer even checked to see if my 2016 is included which was a no. The only concession I got was a partial reimbursement for the...
The dealer tech made a mention of the same thing you noticed about the mechanical tensioner he took out of mine. Where the tensioner was extended but locked into place with no application of spring pressure when the piston was depressed. He wasn't sure if this was how the tensioner functions...
Noise. The engine will make a pretty loud and distinct rattle. I have a thread in the 650 general discussion subforum where I linked to a Youtube video that captured the exact same noise mine made. Mine got progressively worse in loudness and duration. It would go away after a few minutes of...
What are you talking about? The hydraulic line in question is the object in the middle of my picture with the torx bolt securing it in the middle with the rubber seal/grommet on top. It's between the two cooling lines that feed the oil cooler.
I just went ahead and took a picture. The hydraulic line is the banjo bolt that next to the oil filter assembly. You can find it on the left side of the bike.
I've attached the BMW TSB for the hydraulic tensioner conversion. The parts listed in the TSB is exactly what my dealer used to do the conversion with one extra part that motomanjim mentioned which is the gasket set (11128523449).
Some things you can use without having to look at the engine itself. As Ceesie76 said, if your model is is prior to 2016, then you have a mechanical tensioner provided that the previous owner did not have the hydraulic conversion done. For 2016 as Ceesie76 said and I am stating here, you have...
That sucks you weren't able to get BMW to help out even a little. My dealer was a BMW only dealer since they opened until recently when they picked up Ducati. So that may have helped. And also the fact I bought a brand new 2022 S1000RR last year may have had something to do with it too.
