no CVT belt arrows

Changed the belt and swapped the rollers for Dr Pulley sliders (bike at 21,000 miles and I think the original belt) used one of the ones in someones post not OE BMW and it has no arrows for mounting, not the Mitsobishi either. Since It had no arrows I installed the belt so the lettering could be read as it went in it's normal direction, all felt good on the test drive, has anyone else ran into this problem? I'll have more information on the belt when I get to work, my phone doesn't handle searches well past 4 weeks and I purchased this 2 months ago while on break so I'll need my computer at work to search the part and supplier.

How long did the job take you to do? Did you have the tool that locks the variator? Do anything with the rollers? Just curious, I've got a while before I'll need to worry about it.

I took my time, I do have the BMW holder tool, I replaced the rollers with Dr Pulley slides, I found a huge rat nest on top of the engine and on the second "break in" test drive I see the TPMS is no longer working, SO, I'll need to open it back up and see if something came unplugged or if there is a ground near where I removed the nest that may be loose. I'm otherwise happy with the results, I cleaned and de-glazed the clutch bell, took a little glaze off the clutch facings, cleaned and de-greased the variator faces and cleaned and re-greased the spacer shaft. On first assembly the slider cover wasn't moving very smoothly but I inserted the spacer shaft on the work bench and kept moving it until it smoothed up (less than 5 minutes). I started researching and collecting tools and parts when I first purchased the scoot, I had everything except the grease in a week, the grease took 2 months. Oh, and total time to noodle it out, clean parts do the repair and re-assemble was about 4 - 5 hours, on a lift, and the first time I've worked on a CVT type system.

Well, catastrophic belt failure, must have been on backwards, have new belt coming from Motorgenic, about $66.00, still have the original belt but I'll just wait on the new one, everything cleaned up and ready for the belt (due Saturday) so I'll try and get it installed Sunday. My best friend is building a house for his wife to be closer to her relatives (he's fighting cancer and this relapse doesn't look good at all) he and I are electricians and he is having a house wiring party Saturday so a bunch of us are gong to help out. Remember, your friends are the family you pick for yourself, so choose wisely and cherish them.

New belt from Motorgenic arrived, exact same belt as before, made in China, no arrows, installing with writing bottom on bike side this time (thinking back that is how original was installed) discovered that one wire in harness above variator was broken, may be why my front tire pressure sensor suddenly stopped working. Wiring repaired, clutch and variator re-installed and torqued to spec, hope to finish tonight and clean up garage/shop and move scooter to parking garage while waiting on semi decent weather to ride in. If this belt doesn't last, I'll write Motorgenic and suggest they add Covid virus to rubber compound, that crap seems to last forever.....

Riding with belt from Motogenic I still can't trust it, I smell "burnt rubber" every time I ride it, I will order the Mitsuboshi belt from Italy and plan to do another swap when it arrives, with the exchange rate the belt from Italy (with shipping) should run about $135.00 and be delivered in about a week. If I read it correctly this is the OE supplier to BMW and cost much less than the $400.00+ of the OEM (with BMW priunted on it). On the plus side, I'm getting quicker at swapping it....

Thank you. Found the write up. I am not due for a long time but like to know what I am in for. Does not look a bunch different than my RZR.

I've got to say, I'm impressed with Carpimoto. Placed an order for the Mitsuboshi belt on Monday, it's delivered on Friday, FROM ITALY! Still waiting to see what they hit me with on the exchange rate but service and delivery were WAY above par. When I ride the scoot with the "no arrow" belt I smell burnt rubber every trip. Did with the first belt, put this one on in the other direction and still smell it. The belt from Motogenic may have been cheap but DO NOT seem to last (only got about 2,000 mile from the first one), original belt had 20,000 miles and I thought about putting it back on while ordering a new BMW belt, but the Mitsuboshi belt is reported to be OEM so I went with it. Lesson learned and shared, so don't go with the Motogenic belt, 1/2 price and piss poor quality.

Just to note that ordering from outside the EU, like from Italy to the US, there should be no VAT charged which is typically around 20% and that tends to pay for the shipping costs.

As you saw in the original post, I had purchased the cheap belt, it failed, replaced with same belt but different direction since NO ARROWS, this belt failed this morning, a little over 25,000 miles on bike now, both belts have failed with just over 4,000 miles total on both belts. It doesn't matter which way the belt is mounted, it's junk and WILL fail. I have the Carpimoto belt hanging on the wall in the shop, will get the scoot home and replace it again and MAYBE I can make 20,000 miles as it should. The belt from Carpimoto is the Mitsuboshi and if I recall is OEM for BMW. While I have it on the lift I'll replace the broken bolt I found on the kickstand, the fun never ends......

I installed the Carpimoto belt a month ago and it's been smooth sailing. Instant improvement. My 2013 is a Gen 1.0 so it's naturally a bit sluggish at takeoff. That remains with the new belt and Dr. Pulley 28-gram sliders. But the midrange is now phenomenal. The bike rockets from 20 to 60.

The belt arrived within a week and was clearly marked (arrows). The only challenge I had was seating the belt, since I don't have the hand strength to pull it into the variator. Near as I can tell, the outside of the belt should be seated below the top of the variator rim; I used light tapping with a hammer to slowly move the belt into its final position.

New Misuboshi belt installed, a 10 minute ride last night after buttoning it up (not enough to break in the new belt) and I rode to work this morning, all back roads, minimal stops, speed below 50mph, riding like I was trying to get 75mpg the 40 minute commute took 55 minutes. Every time I open this scoot I find mistakes from the PO, broken tabs, missing bolts, missing screws, last night as I was replacing another of his mistakes (broken bolt for the side stand) I found a missing frame support bolt. Since I had just replaced the bolts for the side stand I had a bolt in front of me that was a perfect fit. Hope I get better service out of this belt..........

"Every time I open this scoot I find mistakes from the PO, broken tabs, missing bolts, missing screws"

Ach, that's maddening. I had to clean up several messes from my PO: replace missing bolts, fix several plastic tabs and in a few cases, use a screw extractor to remove bolts tightened "by feel" (clearly not torque) from the aforementioned Gary Gorillahands.
