I rode to work this morning with the new windscreen. While the wind blast is better, I still get hit from about the collar bone up. I'm 6' but long torso and sit as tall as a guy 6'3". The other issue for me is left turns cause the windscreen to run into my radar mount. So, I'll have to figure out another way to mount it (thanks BMW for zero mounting spots). I do like that the windscreen nicely covers the TFT and makes it so much easier/brighter to see.

Took about an hour and a half ride around town this morning with the new Puig dark smoke windscreen and I really like it. I’m 5’11” (legs and torso proportionate) and the wind blast goes over the top of my helmet without much buffering at all. In fact, I think it’s better than the large screen that BMW sells that I also own.

Yes, at the end of the lock turn, both sides of the windscreen will barely hit the mirrors but this is at a really extreme low speed turning position, so it really shouldn’t be a problem for most riders.

I’m not worried about speed because I don’t speed a lot and I don’t need a radar detector & I mostly ride around on ECO mode. DYNAMIC mode is for when I feel like a hooligan occasionally. I did notice it seems to be much more calm in the windscreen and scooters’ wind void envelope.

Yes, the dark smoke windscreen really helps with visibility on the TFT screen too.

@2Wheelz - Now that you've had the Puig for a while, how do you like it versus the tall windscreen?
I liked it better than the BMW tall windscreen as it seemed to throw most of the wind buffeting over my helmet, and I’m 5‘ 11”.

By the way, I traded in my first in Minnesota 2022 CE 04 at the dealership I bought it from (Moon Motorsports) in early December of 2023 and purchased a 2024 Ducati Monster SP. Just by coincidence the salesman that sold me my CE 04, is a long time Ducati Monster aficionado/owner and I will definitely use him as a source as he has been running Ducati Monsters for a long time. Plus, he also sells them and is very expert in their operation and maintenance.

Watching the resale values of electric vehicles plummet over the last year motivated me to sell this electric scooter sooner than later and be rid of it as I really did not like it much at all from all the two wheel vehicles I owned over the years. Received $10,000 for the trade whereas other dealers in the Twin Cities were only offing up to $7000 (and I felt lucky to be rid of it as a private sales up here in northeastern Minnesota would’ve been extremely tough) and as you guys all know it’s less than the purchase price for sure, but I’m glad I got out from under this albatross of an electric scooter. Had too many niggling electrical & computer problems with this bike and the dealership was too far away for me to conveniently get them fixed right. Plus, the incredibly fragile rear turn signals were a big negative for me to leave the bike out parked in public somewhere because people would gather around it because of its uniqueness and I was afraid they’d knock one of those turn indicators and break it even with the zip tie quick fix. Also, trying to hook up to my Shoei helmet with Senna communications gear was intermittent and lousy through the CE 04 and I know it was set up right because I paid the dealership $50 to set it up right.

And I realize that some of these issues are because of this new tech loaded into one new bike, but the problems I had were detrimental for me to keep this scoot.

Where I live in northeastern Minnesota does not have the electrical infrastructure to be able to tour like you did in your area, Tom. I thought that by the time I had this one to ride last spring we’d have more charging options, but no. I thought I could live with the limited range of this electric scooter, but realistically it’s not there yet for my type of riding and I thought it would be but I was wrong. Also, I think I got caught up in a little bit of that pandemic scarcity thing, where you purchased thinking that you might not have a chance to purchase it again because of supply chain issues. It was an expensive lesson to be sure, but I’m certain that I’ll have more fun on the new 2024 Ducati Monster SP.

The Ducati is certainly much more beautiful to look at than the BMW CE 04 and definitely has much more “soul” with that wonderful Desmodronic L4 engine sound coming out the Termignoni exhaust. The CE 04 in my opinion had no “soul” and that’s the big problem with electric bikes. Also, this was the first motorcycle I never gave a pet name because to me it was soulless. Named my new Ducati Monster SP “Bella Cagna Maleducata” (Beautiful Rude Bitch). 😎

Going to still stay a member of this forum for a bit & check in occasionally to see how you guys are doing and I’ve also joined the Ducati Monster forum, which has many more posts per day, because of the huge following of those motorcycles, which is kind of fun as well.

Bottom line, it was an expensive lesson but I’m glad I went through it knowing that I’ll never purchase another electric motorcycle again because they just don’t have
”soul” & excitement without the internal combustion engine sounds IMO.

Were I to get a bike for longer distances, I would probably just keep my CE-04 as it is still great for my short commutes. I don't think I would get out of this scooter enough to make me feel good about trading it in. I know I got a crap deal when I traded in my 2018 R1200RT. I've been eyeing for a long time a BMW K1600B, but I'm waiting for those dumba**es at BMW to catch up with Ducati's Multistrada V4 in terms of adding the full Bosch tech. Until they add Blind Spot detection and rear collision warning, I'm not making the investment. It would be my luck to buy a new K1600B only for them the following year to add those things. If they keep delaying, maybe I will just go for the Multistrada.

Most of my local and regional riding I do is mostly between 40 and 60 miles an hour, so wind protection is not a major concern for me.

Ron, I knew I was going to take a bath on trading in the CE 04, but I just wanted to stop the bleeding financially and I’m happy with my decision.

The 2024 Ducati Multistrada V4S Grand Tour is one hell of a “top of the line” touring motorcycle with ALL the latest “state-of-the-art” electronic technology, but then again you’re looking at spending north of $30,000 easily by the time you add all the fees, taxes & your choices in farkles.

I’ve found the Ducati ownership and technical support experience much more rewarding than the BMW experience to be honest. They know what they’re doing at Ducati for sure regarding treating their customers very well.

At 69 years old and riding for over 59 years, I’ve done all the long distance touring on a motorcycle I want to do in my lifetime so I wanted a local/regional bike for tooling around here locally in Duluth, Minnesota and also short trips out to Bayfield, Wisconsin for the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and also of course trips up the North Shore of Lake Superior. And with nearly 12,000 lakes in the state, there’s always a new lake to check out with my photography hobby. Even without photography on a ride, it’s nice to go up the north shore of Lake Superior, stop to get some smoked salmon and smoked lake trout, some cheese & crackers and have a beverage at one of the scenic spots around the magnificent big lake. Plus, it’s always a good ride to run all the way up to Grand Marias, Minnesota and have some lunch at the Angry Trout Restaurant on the harbor too.

I’m into Landscape/Birding/Wildlife photography and this Ducati Monster SP will handle this duty extremely well.

Ron, forgot to add that when I was looking to trade in my 2022 CE 04, all the Twin Cities dealerships that sold them had several in inventory & one dealership had SIX that hadn’t sold in over six months❗️

That’s why the two only other BMW dealerships I checked would only offer me less than half of what I paid for mine because they were not selling in the Twin Cities/Minnesota market. Obviously, Moon Motorsports offered me a much better deal at $10,000 for the trade-in & I had a sympathetic salesman and sales manager that wanted to keep my business. This kind of customer goodwill will keep me as a customer in the future for sure.
