First oil change on my C650GT

It should go without saying - you do not need a torque wrench for removing the oil drain plugs. Only for doing them up again when finishing the job.

    favorite online BMW parts?

Well as far as I can tell, N3 is simply NOT available here in Australia. When I was about to begin the belt replacement, I went to my local BMW dealer, and there were a couple of blokes standing at the door to the workshop (customers of course are not allowed to go inside that sacred area!). I...

    2013 drive belt replacement C650gt

Intended to replace the original belt at 20,000 Km as per the service schedule. At 21,000 I stripped it down and inspected the original belt - it was in perfect condition. Absolutely as new. But I had already bought myself a Mitsoboshi so I installed it. I think I will let it go until the bike...

    C650GT Maintenance Tips

See my earlier post - transmission belt in perfect condition at 20,000 Km. Obviously the wear on this belt would depend to some extent on the way the bike is ridden. My riding is mostly cruising, open road or freeway at about 100 to 110 Km/hr. Very little riding in heavy traffic. Even so, I was...

    C650GT Maintenance Tips

My 2018 C650GT just ticked over the 20,000Km a few weeks ago, so time to do the belt change. The oil change was as other riders have said, quite easy. The belt was another level of difficulty - more tools required and a bit of time as well. I used Delray's excellent guide to help me through the...

2016 C650 Sport Check Oil warning intermittant.

I have got a 2018 C650GT, and have recently had the same problem. Usually the warning comes on after the motor has been running for at least a few minutes, so I do not think it would be the oil pump being faulty. I check the oil - always OK (I am very careful about the amount of oil used in an...

Just changed belt, rollers and air filter, but all in good shape

Thanks Delray and Ceesie76. Had another go at the service reset, it worked this time. Earlier attempt included turning the ignition key on (to perform the operation) then off again, then next time the ignition was turned on, the "service" reminder still appeared. Today, after resetting the OBD I...

Just changed belt, rollers and air filter, but all in good shape

Useful pst, thanks Delray. My 2018 C650GT is getting close to the 20,000km mark (about 12,500 miles) and I am planning on doing the belt change etc soon. In fact I also have a trip of 4,000km planned for the near future, but based on your experience I will do that first, it sounds perfectly OK...

    New member welcome thread..

Hello Greg (Beema41) and BFGong as well. I was beginning to think I owned the only C650GT in Australia! There are no others where I live (Albury Wodonga) so it's nice to know I am not the only owner. I am 77 years old, and have been riding for a ibt over 60 years. This is my third scooter. Last...

That cannot be the only grease that will do the job. It falls into the category of "high temperature lithium-based grease" - other manufacturers do make such types of grease, and they are cheaper and, more importantly, come in smaller containers. Less waste. Has anyone tried another grease? Or...

    c650gt overheating?

Thanks, emseedee. I was quite excited to think it could be something so simple! But no. Checked the fuses, all OK. Will just have to wait until the red light comes on again, and check with the OBD. But while the RH panel is off, I will certainly be looking closely at those fuses again. Maybe all...

    c650gt overheating?

Today, as I was riding my 2018 c650gt, the dreaded red triangle lit up. along with a little thermometer icon. Stopped the bike but could find no obvious sign of overheating - no steam, no smoke, no heat, no hot-motor smell. Couldn't see liquid level in the sight gage, but it is usually invisible...

Where in Australia do you get your spares

I am also wondering. I am getting close to 20,000km and may possible need a chain guide soon. Have not yet tried my local BMW dealer (last resort!) but will be interested to hear suggestions!

    Windscreen spoiler

Buffeting and wind noise on my helmet was a problem on my Burgman 650, a Laminar Lip helped a little bit but not much. Now on my 650GT the buffeting was still a problem, so I added a cheap ($30) extension. It didn't even have a brand. A five-minute job to attach it, with its feeble looking...

    Front wheel removal C650GT.

Thanks Delray. That's all clear now. I have ordered the bits and pieces and just need another 2,000km on the bike before tackling the belt and roller job. It really doen't look hard. Perhaps the worst part will be getting the plastic off first!

    Front wheel removal C650GT.

Thanks Delray. The Dr Pulley vendor also mentions (as well as 28g sliders) a U-shaped item called "sliding pieces" - will I need a set of those as well? Doesn't look like it on the video.

    Front wheel removal C650GT.

Young and foolish - yes - and then there's the other saying, "no fool like an old fool". I guess that's me! But to change the topic slightly, Delray, I know you will be able to advise me - at nearly 20,000 km the C650 is approaching belt replacement time. I've got everything I need to do the...

    Front wheel removal C650GT.

Further to my earlier post (above) I have indeed tempted Fate by mentioning "no punctures in 56 years" ... On a recent ride to a fairly remote part of Australia, one day I noticed a drop of pressure on the rear tyre, thanks to the TPMS. From a starting pressure of 42psi, it had dropped to 38. As...

    C650GT Maintenance Tips

Question on C650 maintenance - my 650 is coming up to 20,000km, when as well as the oil change it is due to have a belt replacement and "roller maintenance". I have the replacement belt, and the necessary tools, and have watched a couple of videos to learn about the belt replacement. No problem...

C650GT - preload spring adjustment clearance

Well, I wouldn't call it "plenty" of room. But with a bit of wriggling of the tool it is just possible to adjust it. As slant911 says, "one notch at a time". Difficult but possible.
