Not sure which bike I'll be taking. Maybe this year if I lean towards the K1200LT I'll actually take the C650GT. On the other hand, I've already done several overnight trips with the scooter (two of which involved camping) so maybe it's the LT's turn.

Decisions, decisions...

Over the last 2 years I have been to the finger Lakes rally I have been on my scooter and have been the only one there (am I an outsider or a trend setter) I am not sure if you really are have a scooter as I am not sure anyone has seen you on it.

The only thing that has me hesitant is that this past Wednesday night, on my way home from Coney Island, the scooter developed this odd "thrumming" sound and vibration that seems to be directly related to road speed. At first I thought maybe the wheel we just updated with a new front tire threw its weights... but they were all intact when I got home. Not sure what it is, and I don't think I have enough time to get it to the shop and get it checked out... the rally starts in two weeks...

When I had my front tire replaced he put the red dot along side of the valve. I had the same (sounds like the same thing) the red dot should be opposite the valve. Simple check

The red dots are lined up with the TPM sensor; we remembered that the last time we did the tires (and had to use an enormous amount of weight to balance it after). Also, this just started happening; the tire was changed before I left for Indianapolis and it was just fine for those 1,700 miles (round trip and around town while we were there). It's something else... :(

From the factory, both my front and back tires had 100 grams on them for balance even though the shop manual calls for 80 grams maximum. The set of tires I have on now I have 1 ounce (29 grams) of dyna beads in them and no problems

Did it change with the texture of the pavement also? Could be lots of things that can vibrate such as body panel , something in the glove box, wheel bearing, and yeah tire balance. Tough to give an opinion without actually hearing it. Something starts vibrating, and vibrates something else, which makes the noise.

I thought road surface too... but it didn't seem to make a difference. Our roads change texture constantly depending on which firm was contracted to do the paving and for how much. :p Fortunately, right before I get to my exit the road was freshly repaved, but that pulsating thrumming sound remained...

Yes... and apparently only at speeds less than 60 mph or on deceleration. The sensation is like rolling over highway rumble strips, even though the road is perfectly smooth.

That doesn't sound good at all. Does it feel like riding over rumble strips too? Feels like the front or back? Have you jacked it up to feel for wheel bearing play? I would start there , then check everything you can touch for looseness, then run the bike on the centerstand, ( you new mechanics shouldn't do this).

Could you have knocked the tire pressure monitor out of place when you installed the new tire

I don't think so... the scooter was fine for the 1,600 miles I did during the Indianapolis MotoGP. If it were loose, I should've felt it long before now. This weekend I'll put it up on the centerstand and play with the wheels to see if I can feel anything.

Speaking of "Belt," I'm wondering if what I'm feeling is the CVT belt slipping. Remember, they didn't replace the belt at either the 12K or the 18K service and I have a little over 20K on it now. Hmmmmmm...

When's the Warrantee up? If I remember it's coming up soon... If this is on your dime and you are taking it apart to check the belt, etc., maybe change to Dr. Pulleys?

If it moves, it can vibrate!!

So for the past 2 years I have been the only scooter at the Finger Lakes rally. I have been a trend setter for sure. There were 2 others there Jamie and anther girl on her GT from Ohio.

I never met the other GT owner. I did wander around the site to see if there were any others but besides us and the Suzuki Burgman there weren't any. Posted the saga of why one of those 3 GTs never made it home in another thread... :(
