One thing I am looking forward to: Trying out the Anchor Bar (where the "Buffalo Wing" was invented) and Duff's (where I've been informed they were perfected). Maybe I should pack some Tums, too...

Less than a week away. Right now I am leaning towards the K1200LT. I find myself trusting a 17 year old motorcycle with over 200,000 miles on it than my three year old scooter with only 24,000 miles...

Keep an eye on the weather, especially if you're camping. I was originally going to camp, but a friend of mine who lives in the area offered me a spare room, so I know I'll have a dry place to sleep for the entire rally...

First couple days - 14th and 15th has a fairly high chance of thunderstorms.

Looking forward to meeting some of you there. I'll be on the 1999 BMW K1200LT, canyon red with faded saddle bag lids (eventually I'll get those repainted). The top box has the flags of the Philippines (representing me) and Scotland (representing my wife) on the back and the old-school odometer that you can read even with the ignition turned off (remember those??) has over 200,000 miles on it.

I'm hoping to get a demo ride on an F800GT while I'm there and to see if any creative types have come up with some new farkles for the C650GT.

I am planning to be there Friday. Likely will be on a white Triumph Explorer. We'll get a group photo....if we get a group. :D

I'll have adventure panniers (those aluminum things) and a black GIVI top box.

The only scooter BMW brought for demo rides is the C650 Sport. For some reason, they didn't bring the new GT. Wonder why? I took the F800GT for a ride and was somewhat disappointed. It felt surprisingly sluggish for an 800cc motorcycle, and the vibration through the handlebars was very annoying. Ergonomics were ALMOST spot on perfect; I think the thicker "comfort seat" may give me the extra legroom I felt I was missing. But that vibration is a deal breaker...

Lots of people there?

It seemed to be very well attended, but the ones on the East Coast always are. I haven't seen or heard an official head count, though.

I was told the attendance was announced at the rally. Since I wasn't there most of the time, I'm not surprised I didn't hear. The figure given was 6,198. Not bad, it doesn't break the record set at York, PA in 1989 but it's pretty damned good. Every time they have the rally in the Northeast they do very well; but they do want to be fair and move it all over the country. I still think the BEST site was the one in Moodus, CT. BIG swimming pool on site, and BOY did that get good use!
