I received my new Bell Star Carbon, Custom Fit Helmet this week. It FITS !!!
I have a long oval head with a bump in the middle of my forehead. I have six helmets that don't fit and have had many more since I got my MC license in 1967. Usually I would buy the biggest helmet I could find and live with the extra space on the sides and what happens in a strong crosswind coming off the Bay of Fundy during a full moon rising tide. And now the helmet manufacturers have decided that they need not make xxxl helmets anymore and the few available appear shaped on a bowling ball.
Sometime last year I read that Bell Helmets was working on their CUSTOM FIT system! I knew I had to have one, this was my last hope!!
( yeah yeah, I know, but, my ARAI doesn't fit either). They scan your head while you wear a thin neoprene cap, send the file to Snell for approval, and then mold the helmet to your shape.
Went for a short trial run last night, it was perfect and not a hard spot could be felt.
Down side? I have been wearing a HJC half helmet for years, because it was the only helmet I own that I could wear for a full days ride. Going to a full helmet will take some getting used to. Oh, it's expensive, too.
