Hi all,

I am considering getting the BMW accesory top box for my C650GT 2016, but am wondering if a XXL full face helmet will fit inside it?
Or should I be looking at a larger Givi box?

Cheers!

I'd recommend Givi.

My Large fits with plenty of room all around so I'd guess "Yes" but your best bet would be to see if your dealer has a top box available for you to check (even if it's an accommodating customer who wouldn't mind you checking his scooter out). I think the BMW (by SHAD) looks better on the bike than the Givi. Using the BMW bag also means having to carry one less key since it'll use the same key you use for the ignition.

Thanks Jaime, I think I'll go ahead a get one (BMW). Once I get it Ill come back here and post the result of the 'fit' test .

Cheers,

My friend had an XL Schuberth C3 that had problems fitting. I'd try to check it first cause its expensive - if you can.

Hi,

Its okay, its not critical that the helmet fits as it fits fine under the seat, I have other uses for the top case. It would be nice tho...

Although this is not my post, thanks for the info. I have a size medium full face Bilt helmet and I canNOT get it to fit under the seat (even my husband has tried) so a top box it shall be, even though I don't really like the way they look. I already got the luggage rack so I guess I am part way there!

Well I am happy to report that I tried the fit of my XXl Shoei J Cruise helmet and my HJC IS max BT XXL helmet and they fit just fine, with room to spare. One at at time of course.
It is a big top box volume wise. Well designed. I went for the colored trim peices to match my Scoot and it looks very nice, for a top box! There were no included instructions, but luckily there is not much hardware to figure out where it goes for the luggage rack. Once I fugured out you have to remove the passenger grab rails to do the install, it went together quickly.

Cheers!

Hi,

My XXL helmet fits fine under the seat, you have to put it in upside down and sideways at the front of the storage space. Give that a try, it should fit.
good luck

Thank you, I'll try that. I did just get in the top box that I ordered but it's good to have options!

On a side note... I was surprised at how.... cheap, for lack of a better word... the top box looks. For close to $500 I would have expected something more than plastic... a liner... something. Oh well. What's done is done! Took over two weeks to arrive because I opted for the vin-matched key for the lock. My husband says he'll buy some carpet liner (?) to glue down to the bottom to make it a little more "finished" looking.

yes I was surprised by that too, not nice that the screw heads are sticking out, can scratch your helmet. I put a soft cloth in there, which doubles as my windsheild wipe. I was thinking of getting some of the black non skid drawer/shelf liner.
The vin matched key is such a nice feature, one key does everything. Well worth the extra.
The problem I am having now is that when I push the key in to release the handle, the handle often does not pop out. So I had to tie a piece of string (red) to the handle so that I can get it out, to open the topbox. It seems to be slowwwwly loosening up and popping out with more use, but annoying. I mentioned it to the dealer, they were surprised (as usual...), said to monitor it, if it doesnt get better soon then they would look at it under warranty.

I am having the same problem! My husband is the one who assembled and installed it and he says (I am paraphrasing here) that the "catch" is too long or something so it doesn't release easily (I have to sort of give it a sort of punch with the side of my fist to get the handle to pop up). If I really pound on it, it will work! But I don't think I should have to pound on it so hard.

I also don't think the lid closes very easily... because it's just cheap plastic! I was expecting it to be sturdier type material and when I gently drop the lid, I assumed it would just close.

It's really convenient to have the box but I just don't like how cheap it feels.

I tried to bring myself to buy givi or shad and just couldnt do it even though the bmw topcase price is almost heart stopping! Color matched inserts and it looks like it was always suppose to be there!
