C 400 GT: Added Powerlet Outlet to the Outside Bodywork

Yesterday I completed two mods to my 2022 C 400 GT, done essentially at the same time because both required the removal of most of the rear bodywork.

The second farkle (the first is my post www.bmw-scooters.com/index.php?threads/c-400-gt-added-skene-p3-ts-brake-flashing-and-turn-signal-flashing-led-modules.2502/) was adding a Powerlet socket (like the BMW/DIN socket in the right cubby) to the outside of the bike. This is a mod I've done now to two Burgman 650s and one Victory bagger, i.e., my last three bikes.

On all three, I've added the socket to -- or more accurately, through -- the tupperware under my left thigh. Over the course of those 15 years, I'm convinced that this is the ideal location for plugging in heated gear, as the cord from a vest or liner invariably exits on the left. Further, then having that cord (or an extension to it) plugged in under the left thigh is least disruptive, e.g.: it doesn't rub against the bike; isn't inside your leg, where it can get pulled or trapped; isn't draped where it can interfere with steering; is easy to reach, to plug in or pull out; and doesn't interfere with getting off the bike, if you momentarily forget to unplug it first.

And, as most of know, Powerlet/BMW/DIN plugs make secure connections -- certainly better than cigarette-style sockets and better, IMO, than the coax connectors that come with most heated gear -- and don't vibrate out.

I have a detailed description of this work -- pics, captions, links -- in my gallery, from image 44 through 57, i.e., starting here:

Here are a few pics from that gallery (where, as I say, I have all the details, and larger pics):
