C400X Opinions and Maintenance Schedule/Cost

Hi guys, I am thinking I will purchase the 2019 BMW C400X and was trying to find out what type of scheduled maintenance these guys will need. I saw someone put a comment on Reddit stating that the maintenance costs are upwards of $2000! That seemed a little crazy to me and I have been unable to find anything else to validate this claim. I was wonder if any of you C400X owners could share your experience with maintenance schedules, costs, options. I would also love to hear in your reply some honest feedback about your scooter...what are the pros, cons, any regrets, favorite features, or maybe things to know before buying.

I hope that your responses will help me make my final decision on purchasing this bike.

Thank you!

I've only ridden the C400X (scooter tour in France and Germany!) but guessing it'll come down to who will be doing the work. In ascending order of costs:

1. You
2. Independent shop
3. Dealer

Any BMW (bike or car) is going to cost a lot of money for service. I learned many years ago what service I was comfortable with and what I didn't want to attempt. Once I did that, my costs went WAY down but it's still not inexpensive by any means.

Sorry I don't have any C400X specific advice but suspect it's similar to the C600/C650.

I'm a proud owner of a C400GT. This is my second year and I've had 2 scheduled maintenances done each one costing me just under $400. It is suggested oil changes and maintenance is every 10,000km or annually whichever comes first. This includes an oil change as well. I'm not sure why someone posted $2000 for the maintenance.

Originally, I was considering the Yamaha XMAX but it was never released in the Canadian market so I considered importing it from the USA. Even if it was available in Canada, I would've leaned towards the BMW because of the heated grips and seat, TFT and alarm. The TFT allows the bike to connect to your phone for speed limit information, logging rides (speed, RPM, elevation, route), navigation, media (music) as well as making and accepting phone calls. The TFT also allows you to select what you want to see as part of your instrument cluster - speedometer, speedometer with tach, detailed information such as speed, engine temperature, oil pressure OK, battery voltage, numerous tripometers and diagnostics or system messages. It even reminds you when the next service is.

ABS brakes stops the bike on a dime! Stability control works great in 90+ percent of the situations. I did get stuck in a rut in loose gravel. The back wheel was slipping and the ASC kicked in by applying the brakes on the front wheel. I have tried on many occassions to spin the back wheel on packed loose dirt with no success.

Heated grips and seat is great for the cold spring and fall rides. Not so good in hail because the seat melts the hail and it runs under your pants.

No else offers anything similar to BMW's TFT (BMW Connect). I figured this technology is bleeding edge with no one even offers something similar. No need to think about an upgrade yet.

I've got my C400GT upto 135KPH so far. I'm certain it can go a lot quicker. Maneuverability is pretty good for its size and weight.

From a service perspective, my dealership picks up and deliver my C400GT for its service appointment........priceless. They all know me by my first name.

What I don't like? The BMW Connect app which is required for the TFT. It works but temperamental at times which requires you to re-pair your phone and TFT. Storage under the seat is limited even with the flexcase. I was able to fit my modular helmet and jacket under the seat of my Yamaha SMAX.

There's been a few recalls on the C400 series scooters which is expected since its new to the market. Once again, the dealer drops by to pickup my bike for recalls and delivers to my house when addressed.

Upgrades are virtually non-existant and difficult to find for the C400 series.

Nice to haves in the new C400 series - cruise control and electrical adjustable windscreen or BMW can offer these options as upgrades for previous models.

I would not hesitate buying another C400 in the future.

Please post any specific questions you have about the C400 series scooters.

I hope this information is helpful in helping you decide on the C400 series scooter.

Good luck and stay safe!

I paid around $200 or $250 for my first two oil changes (600 and 6,000 miles). I think they replace the belt at 12k so that one may be more.
