Charging time for CE 0$

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone has been able to charge at 30 AMPS. In charging settings you can set to 30 AMPs and I have a level 2 charger for Car. Set it 30 AMPS and for “Fault in Charging System” Message. If I change to 20 AMPs it will charge . BMW states 0 -100% in 4 hrs 20 min using the supplied regular charger at 110V @ 1.2 KW Which is 10 AMPS but the bike took 7hr 30 min to go from 35% to 90% drawing 10 AMPS. Advertise 1.4 hrs with fast charge ( I have that option) . They state can charge up to 6.9KW which would be 28.75 AMPS 240 V. Manual seems to says it will draw to the lower KW if sensing too high Amps. Takes much longer to charge then advertised. Dealer said it took 9 hrs for them to charge when they got it using a level 2 charger for Zero motorcycles (15 AMP)

Mine charges *very* rapidly on a ChargePoint Flex installed in the garage for my girlfriend's e-tron. I haven't been setting the amperage for higher than 22A because it still charges *very* fast and I figure the slower the charge, the better it is for battery longevity. If you truly have a level 2 charger (similar to the ChargePoint) capable of drawing up to 40A at 240v and it's taking as long as you've described to charge the vehicle, I'd suggest you need to have it evaluated by your dealer. You need to select the amperage on the bike itself, and the level 2 charger will deliver whatever is negotiated between bike and its circuitry. On the ChargePoint I can go from 30% to 100% at 22A in about an hour or less. The included charger obviously takes longer but it's no slouch. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I actually have the charge point as well was at the dealer today and they did 2 software updates and are sending vehicle data to BMW but now it seems to be charging at 30 Amps, did not get the error. Much better!

My CE 04 came with “fast charging” which as far as I can tell is just the hardware and circuitry to keep the battery cool as it fast charges correct? What is needed to fast charge it at “stations” in the U.S.? A different cable? And what are home options for fast charging? Only the BMW charge point? I am new to EVs and surprised at how not clear it is…

That's great to hear! I wonder what the software updates entailed...weird that it wouldn't have come from the factory with the correct bits necessary to deliver max charge capability.

I don’t know what the updates were. Took about an hour to update. I haven’t noticed anything else different since the update.

Hey SeaE04. If your’s cam with the fast charging option then you don’t need anything else to use a level 2 charger, Stations in the US have the cable already but you the station needs to be level 2 (AC) not the “Fast” DC stations. The major level 2 ones seem top be Chargepoint Here in FL. For home options for fast charging just need to have a 240 outlet. There are many options you can get. Chargepoint is good but expensive. Check out Mustart portable ones. Also You need to set the charging amperage on the bike to 30 Amps.

I'm late to this thread but wanted to chime in. I've now had many charges at 30 amps and I average about 1 mile gain per minute. It slows slightly at the top end of the charge, but that is typical for any EV. Today, I charged at a ChargePoint and in 56 minutes gained 56 miles est. in ECO mode or 53 miles est. in Dynamic mode.
