Check oil level

The owners manual states that the oil level should be checked at "operating temperature" for accuracy. I checked the oil about 90 minutes after a 100 mile ride. The oil level was just below the min line and with only had 175 miles on the odometer. With the oil warm I would of thought the level should be at least half way between min & max.

I added about 150 ml and checked while hot. This time right at max line. I think this means the oil was not at max From dealer, but within proper limits. Also, the oil displays ( ---- ) which I believe mean the level may be high and I need to remove some of the oil.

Question is the oil level only accurate if we check the dipstick while hot, right after a riding (I.e., when refueling)?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

The day I brought my bike home I did some checks and opened some panels. When I checked the oil it was at minimum when cold (they do not want to give you more than you paid for)

That is not a surprise you will loose oil until the rings seat in and it probably wasn't to the full level to begin with and most likely it is the oil that was put in at the MFG plant in the father land. Once you get past the 1st 600 miles and the 1st service you should only have to check the oil every 2 or 3 fill ups until you see how much the engine is burning the oil up if any and top off as needed You are better off to have a little less than to much oil in the crank case.

A dry sump system like the C650GT has to be checked while HOT. This was the same for the various Buell motorcycles I've owned in the past. Wet sump systems can (and should be) checked when cold.

If you check and top up your scooter's oil when the engine is cold, you're going to overfill it.
