Dr Pulley Clutch Tuning

Finally got the Dr Pulley Clutch in my C600 Sport tuned to my liking. I had to order weaker clutch & pillow springs from Dr Pulley since all of the extra springs included with the clutch are stronger than what it comes installed with. The weaker clutch springs cause the clutch to engage at a lower RPM and the weaker pillow springs cause the clutch to fully engage and stop slipping at a lower RPM. Now I don't have to rev it to the moon to get it to take off. Also makes it much easier to ride at slow speeds and causes engine braking to continue longer until engine reaches a lower RPM. Sweet, as increased rideabiliy was always my goal with installing this clutch rather than increased performance.

It made a world of difference. I can now ride as slow as 20 mph without the clutch disengaging. I can also take off from a dead stop with just moderate throttle and don't have to rev it excessively just to get the clutch to initially engage. It doesn't accelerate quite as fast from a dead stop, but the loss of initial acceleration is minimal as the engine has enough torque to still pull away smartly. I'm guessing that it will greatly increase clutch life as well since the clutch slips a lot less than the stock one does.

Here are the specifics for those wanting to know the combination that I used.

The part numbers for the springs I used are SP1832565105RD-12.5-10kg clutch springs and SP2032365103YL-20-16Kg pillow springs. I also used the Dr Pulley 28g sliding rollers which are part number SR3020R/8-28 & the sliding pieces which are either part number SP3020-AE or SP3020-AH. BMW changed the variator plate at some point, so I ordered both sets of sliding pieces and matched them up with the old ones to figure out which ones I needed, then I returned the ones I didn't use. I still had to file the sliding pieces down a little to get them to fit properly. I ordered all of them from Michael at www.buggypartsnw.com. He's a real nice guy and even included a pre-paid shipping label for me to return the sliding pieces I didn't use.

Nice! Thanks for the info kreiman!

I'm looking forward to replacing my clutch, rollers, and sliders with Dr Pulleys at my 40,000km servicing!

This would be good information to prep for before the servicing!

Thanks so much for pioneering this path. You and I want the same rideability from what you're saying. I'm going to do the same setup asap. Frequently I like tooling around the neighborhoods, 30-40mph, but the bike roars at me, telling me to get the heck going faster. Sometimes I have to admit that roar is kinda cool, just not all the time.;)
