Electric Scooters Are They Worth It?

Electric Scooters keep popping out of the seen lately and they are becoming more accepted by more consumers.

I do not have one but I knew somebody that bought one and its speed is really amazing. After years it can cope up with the fastest fueled bikes out there.

The only disadvantage I see was the charging time where some have to be charged for hours.

As long as this issue will be solved, I am in no doubt that it will take a big surge on the market.

So what do you think guys?

Battery technology just isn't there. If you lived close to work I could see this working. But for me anyways I commute and travel on my scooter, neither are practical for electric vehicles.

My opinion is we have a LONG way to go until we start seeing useful ranges in electric vehicles. Currently and for the foreseeable future electric vehicles are going to used in a limited capacity.

PS, I am not one of those people that hate electric vehicles with gasoline in my blood. I applaud the efforts and would welcome and electric vehicle if it fit within my driving habits.

omniphil you are correct. the batteries that power these things are Lithium ion. Take care that is what took down UPS flight 6oo and now possibly the Malaysian flight. When are we going to restrict the shipping of the things and how many houses have burned down due to recharging the chey Volt. How many houses are going to burn down from recharging scooters. You would be riding a bomb, not for me thanks.

For me its pure economics on the gas vs electricity argument. For the type of range and speed that I require for my riding, electricity just won't cut the mustard just yet.

There are a couple of electric motorbikes being sold here in San Francisco area. For example the Brammo Empulse R is hovering right around the 20,000 dollar mark and gives performance that is in-line with the C-Series gas scooters, but Two things are for certain

1. I can buy A LOT of fuel for the $8,000 to $10,000 difference in price... like enough fuel to run my C600 for well over 100,000 miles. That's about 10 years worth of petrol.

2. I cannot tour on an electric bike without seriously planning the itinerary around charging cycles.

The C Evolution looks promising with moderate range, speed and charging times...but if you try to do anything other than inter-city travel your outta luck.

For now Benzine in King in my book.
