Fuel tank cover broken

After my 600 mile check up I noticed that when I turn the key for the fuel door, it doesn't pop up any more. It releases, but doesn't spring open. Have to get a finger under it to open the door to get at the gas tank. Worked fine before the service. Called the dealer who did the service and he was quick to say they wouldn't have done anything that would have caused the issue. But it's all under warranty so could bring it in and they'd fix. Haven't done that yet since I don't want to leave it again and I can still get the fuel door open.

Anyone ever have this happen and is it a quick fix? I'm am mechanically challenged so it would have to be real easy for me to fix.

Definitely let them. The little plastic tab that gets pushed on is probably broken. It's about a 30-second repair to replace the door. Now, if the mechanism that pushes up on the door has malfunctioned, that's a bigger problem. Either way; make them do it. Not rush; just remind them at the next service.

I broke mine by opening the trunk and the fuel flap at the same time. It cost me $70.00 to replace and was not covered under warranty. Have the dealer fix it.

Mine never springs open. And given the ability to break the door accidentally by lifting the seat, I'm glad. So, to open my fuel filler door, I simultaneously turn the key AND push down on the lower half of the fuel door. Works every time.

That's what I've been doing and it's no big deal. So I just have to tell myself it's a feature, not a defect :) I'm not going to rush in to get it fixed since it's a hassle to leave it with them for something so trivial. Just hope they remember that they told me they would fix it for free. I do think they did something while I had it in for the 600 mile service. But can't prove a thing.

I sprayed silicone on the two plastic piviot pins and it helped (some other lube might work just as well too). It still opens a bit slow but it will now open on its own without needing additional help.
