Ghost in the hazard light button

My hazard flashers have come on unexpectedly three times now. Once while riding, and twice after parking the bike and coming out of a store to see the flashers going. Luckily the unattended ones were short duration before discovery. With the key set to the lock position and removed, the hazard button can't be activated by a wise guy while I'm away. And I'm not inadvertently hitting the button....promise. I can't even turn the hazard flashers off without first inserting and turning the key to the start position. So, I'm left to conclude that this is a relatively benign quirk (to add to the growing list of "quirks"), with the bike, or that is was shipped with a ghost in the hazard button. Any similar experiences (fixes??).

@Snowdog - Grew up and spent many years in PBD, hence a lot of Salem time. Haven't been up there recently or that would have been my 1st guess:cool:

If that were the case mine would be broken since I live in Salem. Or maybe that's why they aren't broken?

I worked with a guy who had bought a car whose lights had a mind of their own. They would go on and off by themselves when he was driving, then he wouldn't be able to shut them off. He went through the whole system , but, couldn't find a problem. I kiddingly asked him if someone might haunt the car. He looked shaken to answer that the past owner had committed suicide in the car.

If you turn the key off and the parking lights are still on, you can still activate the hazard flashers even with the key removed. The parking lights remain on for 30 seconds or so after the ignition key is turned off. At any time while the lights are still on, you can turn the flashers on or off. Curiously, once the 30 seconds has expired and the parking lights are off, you cannot turn the flashers off without inserting the key and turning the ignition on.

This does not explain how they are coming on when riding (probably a bad switch in your case), but you can activate the flashers even though the ignition is off if you hit the switch within 30 seconds.

I didn't know that. Thanks. I'm just making part of my shut down procedure to include, "look at bike as you're walking away to make sure flashers aren't on". Obviously I'll get it checked at the next service if the situation doesn't get out of control.
