GPS Mounts

I know we've hashed this a number of times and call me lazy. Fine - guilty as charged. I was hoping we could get a fairly tight thread on GPS mounting. Might even merit a sticky if enough of us help!

I'm getting ready for a shop day to restore my old accessories to my new/used GT. I had my GPS mounted to the existing screw hole that secures the handle bar cover. I didn't particularly love this and the vibration of the bike caused my GPS to "rub" on the cover, which left a mark on my now totaled bike - would prefer to avoid that on the new one.

So, if you have a GPS mount, please show it and how you secure the mount to the bike. My set up is for a 1" ram mount ball, but I can adapt that if there are other good ideas.

My picture shows my mounting, somewhat upside down (taken in the aftermath of my bike falling off a lift). The connector on top is the switch for my Denali.

Go Rams website, enter your info, make, model, etc., it is diamond shaped plate, comes with screws to mount to the lid of the brake reservoir, mounts right or left side.

This is a Ram mount used on the brake reseviour. It comprises the base plate ball, short extension and diamond ball to attach the GPS cradle. It is wired up to the accessory plug found under the handle bar cover.

Could you please give us a better explanation of how you connected Ram mounting plates to the bike? Did you attach to the plastic handlebar covers? Drill holes? Etc. thanks.

I think there is a picture of the lexan base in the pictures section. The lexan mounts on studs that replace the brake lever bolts.IMG_0524.JPG
You can see the mounting holes in the picture.

Anyone have any mounts for smart phones? Or any ideas/suggestions? I use my smartphone as my GPS. If I could find a way to safely mount it on my handlebars, that would be great. Doubly great if it could be charged.
