Headlamp Woes

Well, I just replaced my headlamp (low-beam headlight) for the third time -- that's four lamps in 16k miles. Each and every time the lamp has blown at startup. It was fine this morning when I got to work; this afternoon when I started it I had the dreaded "Lamp!" warning and, sure enough, it was gone again. I've been using Sylvania Silverstar or Silverstar Ultra lamps and taking the obvious steps not to touch them during installation.

For those of you with higher mileage scoots how many miles are you getting per lamp? I'll be eMailing my dealer tomorrow; this is definitely not an issue with the lamps. For comparison, the SilverStar Ultra in my BV250 lasts around 16k miles.

Silverstars didn't last that long in my bike either. But wow are they nice and bright. H7 lamps don't normally last as long as an H4 for example. I'll guess your Beverly did not have H7's.

Yeah, I'm not sure which size the BV has but they're not H7's. How many miles are you getting per lamp?

Im afraid thats H7's for you. We look after riding instructor bikes and every time they come in at least 1 H7 is blown.
I only use my daytime lights so mine have lasted.

In Canada we are supposed to be European specs yet this is one feature we do not have. I have seen one at the dealership that slipped through.

Yellasei, If I was to upgrade to this switch set is it expensive and what might be the part number be as we can order one here (if we have a part number).
The savings of bulbs could pay the cost of a switch

I had the lamp blow on my bike last year I went to the local auto store and got a new lamp I think I paid about 12 dollars for it and have not had any problems since (7000 miles ) on new lamp. I would check the socket if one of the socket tines is weak and not making a good connections you will keep blowing lamps.

My K1200LT uses H7 bulbs. In 180,000 miles I think I've replaced the headlight bulb maybe five or six times... and it is a HELL of a lot easier to change the bulb on that bike than the time I had to do it on the scooter, too!

Both the LT and the scooter are a heck of a lot easier to change bulbs in that my previous GL1800. That always required a Band-Aid or two before I got them done.
