Helmet for hot weather!

I am shortly going to take a long trip from Toronto to Santa Monica to cover a significant part of Route 66. On the way back I am spending a few days in Death Valley. I have a Shoei J-Cruise which I guess is classified as open face (visor goes past chin) and a Shoei Neotech. As I haven't taken such a long trip yet and especially in what will be very hot conditions for about the 15-20 days, any thoughts on which one to take? I like the idea of the somewhat open face but maybe better protection from the elements with full face modular is better.

Modular. I also use a neck cover whenever on a trip. No doubt you have also read enough about hydrating on long trips, so I won't remind you here (uhh, wait a minute, guess I just did:D).

You will have a blast!

I have an HJC modular that I like in hot weather and on long trips. I just feel better with the additional protection. It has a switchable vent on top that sure feels good, keeps the sweat down. Also has a controllable vent on the chin bar that does a good job of keeping down fogging in cold weather and provides nice ventilation in hot. I have a Bell Mag8 3/4 with a face shield that I wear on short errands around town but it gets hot in the summer, not much in the way of venting. Nice and quiet though. I have Sena Bluetooth in both. Very nice to link with my phone and GPS as well as a couple of riding friends. Makes a good intercom with a pillion rider as well.

Thanks - I have a Camelbak that I used before but the neck cover I didn't think of but will pick up.

I was starting to lean this way as the Neotech is quite well ventilated and I think the modular will keep me better protected from effect of sun - here's hoping I don't get too much other than that on the way!
