Hesitation at slow steady speed

Mine also occasionally lurches when going slowly, though I think mine does it between 20-30mph. I try and hold the throttle perfectly steady, but it lurches again and again. Then the symptom goes away for a month. I’ve not been able to solve it nor narrow down when it happens! But my BMW dealership was familiar with the complaint.

Thanks. My bike is a 2013 650c GT that I recently bought from an individual. Very frustrating situation. Love the bike except for this slow speed lurch. Please let me know if you find a fix or suggestions. Thanks

I have a 2013 600 sport. I find that at slow speed, it is helpful to place my right hand a little on the bar end to stabilize the throttle as I twist it. Almost like "cruise control". I have a bumpy gravel uphill driveway and it is especially helpful there to smooth out the throttle.

I had this.

I felt it was a vaccum leak, pulled the panels, and found hydrocarbon/fuel leaking/staining at the rubber boots that meet the throttle body to the head.

The clamps were not tight. NO WAY at 5,000 miles you should have that much fuel vapor leaking. My bike still reeks of fuel after its parked, so I'm not done with this problem yet.

This seems to have solved it for me.

Which panels did you have to remove to access that issue? Thanks

I had a 2013 650GT. I had BMW install (at my cost) a Dr. Pulley clutch and I believe Dr. Pulley 28 gram throw weights. You need those weights to move out via centrifugal force (speed) to fully engage the clutch to reduce that very annoying hesitation. Later models like the '16 and higher have an improved, but not perfect clutch. Labor cost was about $150. Parts? Probably another $100.

I hate to question but there's no way BMW installed a clutch and sliders for $100. Those parts alone are in the $400 range and my dealer (who uses the book rate) would charge at least $300-400.

I will say the sliders will help though I've returned to the OEM clutch after the DP clutch destroyed by clutch bell at 10k miles. Plus, the sliders are a pretty easy DIY project.

When I start up from cold, no problem.

Then, about 200 metres into a regular journey at a junction where I have to give way, on pulling away there is a very slight very momentary hesitation in the engine just as I turn left onto the highway. It coughs once, falls away, and then gets going.

My next slow down is a mile away along a fast road so the engine is by then warmed through and the event does not recur.

I’m used to it now but it’s a nuisance. Stock model, 2016 GT
