I'm Convinced, the Epilogue; or simply, I replaced my C600

Part Three: http://www.bmw-scooters.com/forum/t...a-little-differently-(Part-III-of-my-trilogy)

And now this:

It's really not the BMW's fault. It's more the Italian stole me away. It's really the Piaggio BV350's fault. I found myself riding that thing almost exclusively, commuting almost daily rain, shine or fog. Plus weekends I looked forward to it more than the BMW. I just though, man if this Piaggio only had about 5 more HP it'd be just about perfect.

Enter the Ducati Sixty2. 399cc twin cylinder. Basically, 41 HP 25lb/ft torque and wet weight of right about 400lbs (a few lighter than the BV, I can tell) and what, 150 or so lighter than the C600.

I had to evaluate my riding really. I don't ride long distance; mostly 100 miles or so on a weekend and the Ducati will fit the bill perfectly for me. Yes, there is an 800cc version, but not interested in it.

First time for me riding an MC but will get all the nuances of real riding down I'm sure. (I rented a 250cc from Eagle riders for a day and found it relatively painless after 4 years of scooter riding.) Learning something new is good for the brain anyway.

Now for the dirty side of things. I took a bath on the trade, but was prepared. The thing is, I didn't know there was an "annual" service, figured It was just every 6000. Mine was due for the annual, plus a new battery (I had been nursing it for a while) and my headlight went out the morning I went to have it appraised for a trade it. So, I was upside down but I wrote a check for just a few hundred more than the service, battery, and headlight and they rolled the negative equity into the new bike at 0% interest plus I feel I got a respectable price on the new bike. Probably not the best $$ decision for sure. Still, I am not losing sleep and hope to enjoy the new bike for a long time.

I could have had the breakdown, but just glanced quickly. But, with a new battery, new headlight, service, and reconditioning they took $625 off the trade in. So, it was probably just an oil & filter change plus checking of bits and such. Plus at $90/hour it adds up pretty quickly.

And, just because, I will keep my thoughts and updates on the Ducati for those interested. We just don't have an "other bike section" here.

Congratulations! Nothing like a v-twin Ducati! I was kind of looking at Ducati, Moto Guzzi and Triumph before I settled on the f 800 gt. Enjoy! Happy Holidays to all.

Sean Sean. So now you've become one of "those"....errrr, one of "us", to be more accurate....scooter+motorcycle guys. But a Ducati?? C'mon, that short skirt and cute little accent was what did it no doubt.:D

Owner of a scooter (BV, BMW C, or whatever) and a motorcycle (even a hooligan bike like your Sixty2

) is a great combo, IMO. Yah just gotta have the time to ride both. I am sure you will make that happen.

For those that have the time or inclination for only one, that's when the choice gets tough but where the Beemers shine through, especially if touring is on the agenda.

Yeah, it was either the Ducati, triumph street twin or motto guzzi v7.

I just didn't use the BMW to its potential. I am looking at the Ducati as a fun run in the hills roadbike. It's light fast (enough) and is a great base for customization.

Well, I've been busy adding accessories, not riding. I went for my first ride today since getting it over a month ago. It's just been a bunch of 5-10 mile rides around the neighborhood getting acclimated to the new bike and to the differences of a motorcycle. I am impressed with the handling that's for sure.

I added a flyscreen, OEM saddlebags, sidestand enlarger, the barkbusters from my C600, different footpegs and a belly pan for protection coming.

Yeah, I can understand why you wouldn't be riding it with all the snow you get !!

Here in New England it warmed up to forty over the weekend, I would have gone for a ride but wasn't feeling good with the flu.

Ha ha. Actually, most of the places I ride to have been covered in snow. Down here in the Valley, it was just a constant, non-stop rain. We basically got half a year's worth of rain in 3 weeks. Looking forward to spring.

Just teasing, glad you got some rain with that drought you have out there. We were having a drought in Massachusetts too.
I got to say, if I have a weekend ride planned and rain is predicted, I go anyway. To few riding days to be fussy.

I can't imagine. Just last week one of the guys at work was complaining, as was I, that it's been a month or so since a good ride. We're spoiled. I ride to work unless it is unsafe, such as yesterday when school buses were cancelled due to "widespread dense fog". In my 18 years as a teacher that has probably only happened 5 times.

But, if it's a weekend and rain is forecast, I just put another pot of coffee on and watch soccer or something.

By the way, here in CA, you may or may not know, we don't get rain in the summer. So, while you guys deal with summer showers and such, we don't; so for me, once March hits, it's usually dry until November.

....I would have gone for a ride but wasn't feeling good with the flu.

This flu thing is the real deal. I have 16 people in my office and 4 were out with the flu. Of course, if they rode PTW's all the fresh air would have made them well.:D

Had my share of Ohio by the time I was 9; blizzards and three tornadoes is enough! Minor flooding, mudslides, fires, rain and earthquakes in California? That's just something to add spice to my California Lifestyle...

Snuck out yesterday for a quick ride and again this morning. Still breaking this thing in. Only 380 miles and about 150 came this weekend.

Anyway, enjoying everything except the seat but that will be fixed soon enough. It definitely out handles any of my previous scooters. It is serving its purpose well.

I wouldn't give up my scooter for daily commuting for this though.

I'm interested to see how things change once it's fully broken in. 6000rpm max right now but HP & torque intersect at about 7500rpm. Right when it comes alive at 6000rpm, I need to hold back.
