This is such a continuous subject. One of the big issues for me is that I have had a 2013 and now own a 2015 and both have had this issue however, you guys in the USA have had the ability to claim this under manufacturer recall, us poor owners in the UK have not been offered the recall. If the part is an issue then surely it should get the recall in the UK the same as other countries! And as Sean says... why oh why have they not resolved a known issue on subsequent face lift models?
It seems that the brand is hitting below the belt and is ignoring reliability concerns without addressing the core problem.

OK I will bite - yes you are both correct, BMW has chosen not to replace the poorly designed tensioner with the better, hydraulic one for reasons that most likely have to do with cost and their estimate of the amount of damage to their brand. I have a 2016 Sport with the old-style mechanical tensioner and BMW replaced it under warrantly when the bike had just 2,000 (!) miles and I replaced it again myself at around 10,000 miles due to rattling noise. New ones are only around $80 and I put the last one in myself, it is quite easy and quick to do. I will keep listening to the engine and next time the tensioner fails, I will again just replace it myself. You can also replace it yourself with the hydraulic one (there is an excellent thread on this from a member here on the forums) but that's a lot of work and expense, and I am happy just to swap them out as they go since it is relatively cheap and quick. I have to say that, so far, it's been the only issue I have had with my C650 Sport that I have owned since I bought it early 2018 with 1,960 miles on it. Save a vibration I have almost solved that occurs above 85 MPH and turned out to be mostly due to a rear tire imbalance, not BMW's fault.

Please do not post in all caps, it's considered similar to yelling.

I live not too far from the Mexico border, would be happy to help you swap out your tensioners some day!
