Lol!! I will see about getting out for a ride. Let me know when you get settled in. Bass Lake right around the corner.

Still haven't met up. For those that don't know, Skutorr now lives about 35 miles from me. Some of those pics in my Sierra Foothills ride are just a few miles from him. I haven't done much riding this summer, for various reasons, Other than the trip I just took.

Have you been out yet? If your haven't, head south on 41 to North Fork road (stoplight and park & ride there) head to North Fork, it's a nice road, one of my favorites even if it's only 15 miles long. If you decide you want to continue through the town of North Fork, the road makes a turn just after the Chevron, drops down and comes to Road 274. Make the turn towards Bass Lake (there is a sign) about 10 miles you'll be along Bass lake. Keep on that road, 274, and you'll eventually get back on 41 just on the other end of Coarsegold.

How about this heat huh?!

I was out riding with a friend today. It wasn't terribly hot, about 96F. Now tomorrow will be somewhat warmer, supposed to be 106F. But it isn't global warming it's July and August in Southern Oregon. Lot cooler once you get out of the Rogue Valley and into the hills.

You don't have to get very far away from the coast in California before it gets hot in a hurry. I used to work in San Francisco and lived in Orinda. Many days I'd have to gear up when I left work due to the fog rolling in and would have to stop and take gear off after I went through the Caldecott tunnel before I got home. :)

Same in Southern Oregon. Many times when I rode out to the coast and back it would be hot here, chilly on the coast and halfway back the heat starts up again.

I went for a ride (having to go to a destination) that took me around Lake Bereyessa in Nor Cal and it was 110 degrees. I don't want to repeat that any time soon.

The temps the past few days have been: 106, 109, 108 and today 108 predicted. Along with those temps comes a hazardous air quality warning from the National Weather Service:
THIS AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT UNTIL FRIDAY EVENING JULY 29.

EXPOSURE TO PARTICLE POLLUTION CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS,
AGGRAVATE LUNG DISEASE, CAUSE ASTHMA ATTACKS AND ACUTE
BRONCHITIS, AND INCREASE RISK OF RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS.

RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO USE CAUTION AS CONDITIONS WARRANT.
PEOPLE WITH HEART OR LUNG DISEASES SHOULD FOLLOW THEIR DOCTORS
ADVICE FOR DEALING WITH EPISODES OF UNHEALTHY AIR QUALITY.

ADDITIONALLY, OLDER ADULTS AND CHILDREN SHOULD AVOID PROLONGED
EXPOSURE, STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES OR HEAVY EXERTION, AS CONDITIONS
DICTATE.

The worst part about the heat isn't really the hot days, it's the hot nights. When opening a window isn't an option, then no fresh cool air gets in the house. Lots of pool time, especially in the evenings.

Yeah, I have my first service scheduled for tomorrow in Chico at 08:00, so I'll be leaving here at 06:00. I just hope that I can get in and get out so that I can get back up to the mountains before it gets too hot. I'll be curious to see the oil change procedure with the internal filter piece, so that I don't loose that piece in the future when I change my own oil. The ride down the hill to Chico is always fun until you reach the valley.

When you change your oll use a screwdriver shaft or socket extension through the oil screen as you push it into place. That way you can't drop it into the engine. I see no reason to change that screen very often like BMW thinks you should because it's easy to see if it's plugged up and can't be cleaned.

As soon as it cools a bit, let's do a ride! I've only done a few local miles since we moved in, as I've been working just about 24/7 on the house and job hunting. Interviewed with Washington, Central and Madera unified districts. Where do you teach?

Yeah. I was thinking about getting out this morning but man, if you're not back home by 9:00 am it's crazy.

I'm excited because it's supposed to get down to 59 degrees overnight by Thursday, I'll be able to open up some windows finally. Of course, then the smoke will come it.

That, along with a few other fires are reeking havoc with the air quality. If you scroll down to the bottom, there is a map. Those are the roads I ride all the time. Takes me 45 minutes from my house to get to the town of Prather. Bottom right of the map is Humphreys Station, I was just there yesterday morning, came around the corner and saw the flames on the hillside (of course not right beside me), but decided not to keep going so I turned back towards home.
