JCosta Pro Variator

I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this post, but if not, please move it to where it should be.
After 8 years, I'm going to switch things up in the variator department, and I'm looking at the JCosta Pro.
I've had a Malossi Variator and clutch spring since the first time I changed the belt, and have been happy with it using the racing roller weights, but I've heard great things about the JCosta from a friend in Germany. She said it's the German equivalent of the best thing since sliced bread. I emailed JCosta, and they sent me some dyno graphs that were pretty impressive.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to take the plunge. Here is a link to it, from the same place I get my belts and some other parts. I've used Malossi Kevlar belts for all my belt changes and just about everything else they make for regular maintenance. I think their stuff is on par with the OEM parts, and the prices are like what parts for just about any other scooter cost. They belts are supposed to be made in Japan by the same company that makes the belts for BMW.
For the price, this variator seems like a deal, especially compared to what they get for the stock variator. Coming from Japanese bikes, I still can't believe how much BMW wants for spare parts.

Hi Arturo, I have the JCosta installed on mine GT… what can i say, pulls really strong specially on the mid range… i did lost top speed and possible will try another solution soon. If you don’t drive faster than 150/160km/h you can get a better solution. Silent and very fast acceleration.
I did made a mistake that cost me a bit of money… so don’t do what i did, make sure you don’t use impact wrench, in my case it came loose and damaged the inner case and bearings, also make sure that the original spacer is installed properly flat surface is for the 34mm nut, also for the JCosta you need to torque the nut to 160Nm instead of the 100Nm from the manufacture recommendation. Additionally clean all the grease from the shaft. Few steps to follow but you will feel a big change for sure.

I have now waiting to install the original variator but with the Dr.Pulley weights 40g instead of the 43g stock, want to improve acceleration without loosing top speed.

As far as i know the best possible setup is Malossi Variator, Dr.Pulley weights (very low weights), we can’t forgot that full weight of the set also counts to increase performance and that’s the reason why the Malossi variator helps to bring the full set weight down. Also the JCosta is very light compared with stock.

I’d love to hear your feed back on comparing both set ups 👍

Hey Noillek did you check the 40gram Dr.Pulley ?

Sorry for being out for a while, after changing to the Jcosta I decided to upgrade to the hydraulic cam tensioner… haven’t ride so much but while doing the upgrade also installed the drpulley 40g and let me tell you that is a good compromise between Jcosta and stock…

Jcosta is like racing machine, Erving high and pulling strong but also decrease on top speed.

drpulley 40g gives a fair increase amount of acceleration maintaining top speed at 180km/h but reaches the rev limiter quick.

I scheduled a ECU tune for March to improve air/fuel is really bad in this model to meet Euro 4 restrictions and hopefully timing and increased rev limiter.

adding a image of a dyno run with Jcosta and Akrapovic exhaust.

As expected does the most power were the air/fuel ratio is closer to 13.7, just by smoothing this parameter it should produce more power but also run cooler at normal highway running speed that is my normal commute.

To wrap up, I will stay with drpulley setup for now and probably sell a Jcosta with less than 5hours of use.

Just to let you know, got a Malossi over range variator with the dr.pulley and gained a bit more of top speed keeping the acceleration higher than stock, now 173km/h gps is top speed, improving the take off.
Also got the clutch counter spring from malossi and I’m not sure I like it seems there is less engine brake on deceleration, but helps on the take off acceleration as well… still testing this setup and waiting for the ECU flash to see what else can this motorbike give.

What's going wrong and the acceleration from 0-50 are so bad ? The tcs ? The program ?
If you got a 2nd hand, start by servicing the motorbike a replace whatever is too wear out, 2013 model is good for top speed as it has a wider transmission ratio than the 2016, to improve acceleration just get the malossi variator and problem solved

Yea man 2013 model ,I replace the stock variatore with Malossi , 22 gr rollers , white spring and yellows springs on the clutch but nothing happens from 0-50km the same slow acceleration. After 50km the scooter are very fast and top speed 190km gps .What can I do to solve the slow acceleration 0-50km ?
