Just back from a New Years short ride - so much fun

First of all, I hope everyone has a safe and fun 2022.

I live in South Texas (San Antonio) where the temperature is typically warm. My lovely wife and I went out for a New Year's day ride a few minutes ago. We covered about 50 miles into "Hill Country" on our 2017 C650GT and I just want to comment on what a pleasure it is to ride this bike. While most of my previous bikes were touring bikes in the 1300cc range, I am pleasantly surprised how well this C650GT handles two-up on winding roads with speed between 50 and 70 mph. We've had this bike for close to a year and it is always so much fun to ride a "scooter".

So, that's it. Best wishes to everyone - enjoy every ride.

Atlanta, 19:00 hours, 74 F degrees, rained this morning, supposed to be cloudy tonight and tomorrow before the cold weather and rain comes back, something is torn in my shoulder and I can't ride. Sleeping in an easy chair has a knee swollen, Dr next week to see what we'll do about it. Blew up my left shoulder 2 years ago, not easy getting old, the wife says I'll be all new with a few more surgeries, she hopes i can out live the warranty.....both knees replaced, 5 neck vertebrae fused, 2 back surgeries, foot surgery, left shoulder rebuilt with bicep re-attached and now the right shoulder.
Too many years of baseball, football, Army then 40 years of construction work; but WHAT a ride!!!

One of the reasons I live in South Florida is I can ride every day (and night). Coldest month of the year is January and temperatures average 75/61. Lowest temps are an hour or two before dawn, and I don't do much riding then.

Two downsides: terrain is flat as a pool table and the roads are a giant rectangular grid, so forget fun twisties, and, 2, there's a ton of traffic and stop lights. On the plus side, it's easy to avoid traffic by riding at night after the Old Ones go to bed. Also, there are plenty of major roads where 50 to 60 mph is expected, and that's my sweet spot.

My favorite time to ride is the morning of major holidays like today, New Year's Day. Pretty much zero cars on the road. All the lights stay green, too. I checked the temperature on my GT's dash and it read 76.5 degrees at 7:30 a.m. For a native of upstate New York, that's a pretty sweet ride for January 1.

Very warm here in SE Virginia today as well. In the low 70s and very humid, roads were a bit wet but nothing coming down. It was the big girls turn to go out so I took the trike for a nice ride out toward Smithfield and back, about 50 miles. Really didn't feel like New Years day, especially with this weather, but I wasn't complaining. If the weather cooperates tomorrow I'll take the beemer out for a similar run.
