MotoAmerica Pittsburg round

For the first time ever, the MotoAmerica road race series is coming to Pittsburg next week. Since MotoGP no longer goes to Indianapolis, my Silverwing-riding friend and I decided this will have to do. We plan on getting to our hotel Thursday evening so we can see all of the practices, qualifying and racing over the next three days. We'll be staying at the Microtel in Beaver Falls. 440 uneventful miles today. Checked into the Microtel in Beaver Falls (birthplace of "Broadway" Joe Namath). Off to the races tomorrow. Hey, we're going to get to ride a lap of the track on our scooters on Saturday!

The only other maxi-scooters we saw all weekend was a Burgman in the Suzuki demo fleet and a Silverwing. I was the only BMW maxi scooter we saw all weekend. I was amazed at the turn out for this event; the parking lot was absolutely full Saturday and Sunday. Not as many bikes as in Indianapolis, but a whole lot more than I've ever seen at New Jersey Motorsports Park for the MotoAmerica rounds there.

The track lap was fun; we actually did two laps around the track. The track layout itself is amazing. Lots of elevation changes, and most of the turns were pretty blind so you really needed a few laps to properly pick out your markers for turn-in and braking. It was a LOT of fun on the scooter even though they kept our speeds below 40 mph for safety reasons.

The scooter worked beautifully the entire trip, and now it's ready for its 30,000 mile service. I'll have to schedule an appointment when I get back from my 9-day cruise.

Hmmmm...How many touring scooters total? Probably not too many. The Beemer is at the top of the class in its category (with a couple others). When I go to events of this sort I see very very few scooters. A couple years ago I was in Orlando at a moto event and among a sea of PTWs, the only scooter I saw was this one...
