Nissin 3 por caliper

Hi! This weekend I just finished the project of fitting a pair of Nissin’s 3 pot calipers, I bought them on eBay , they’re oem on Honda’s CBF 600 Hornet motorcycles and are an almost plug and play job ( because of Honda combined brake system, left caliper use its center pot in a separate line that is connected to rear brake master cylinder) so for our use it is necessary to drill a small hole at the center of the base of cylinder that accomplishes connecting it to the others two hydraulic system making unnecessary using the second brake line , to finish it just need a plug on the leftover plug.
Total cost of the mod: Pair of new calipers with pads on eBay: about $150
And about performance: A LOT more braking power to stop our heavy rigs!!!

Nissin 3 Pot Caliper Brake Mod

Hi carlosabh71,

Thank you for the information on this interesting modification, my bike is used for two up touring and sometimes the brakes are a bit minimal, even with EBC HH pads fitted.

Does the alteration of the Honda hydraulic circuit cause any problems with bleeding the brakes or changing the fluid? Is the ABS system still fully operational?

No problems, the right caliper pushes all three pistons with just one port for the brake line, the left caliper is the one that the middle piston is operated with the second brake line that in Honda’s system is connected to rear brake fluid circuit.
What has to be done is just make right caliper the same as left one ( that with one port it moves all three pistons) making the drill mode connects all three to the same hydraulic circuit internally so I just plugged the second brake line port and now it works exactly the same as the right one.
ABS works as intended , brake lever feel is same as stock but with a lot more braking power ( needed in situations like the one you described when scooter is fully loaded )
