Oil change questions

I am looking to gather up the parts needed to do the first oil change. From what I can see I located the filter and oil. Is there a substitute for the $20/liter BMW oil that manual is looking to scare you into getting? (SAE 5W-40, API SJ / JASO MA2, Additives (e.g. molybdenum-based) are not permissible because they can attack coated components of the engine, BMW Motorrad recommends BMW Motorrad ADVANTEC Ultimate oil.).

I see a o-ring set which I believe one is for the screen and the other is for the drain plug?

Does not seem to be very much available information for what to actually use or people that have listed what they have used.

Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. I did stumble on the drive belt.....$411???? WOW!!! That's pretty pricey........

Hi -
I would recommend MOTUL oils . The "Scooter Power" 5-40W oil is good . The 7100 is pure synthetic , so much better quality . I use the Hi-Flo oil filters . Built as good as OEM , but cost less.
Ebay is a good source Motul oils

100% agree on Motul. I am also 100% not trying to start an oil thread, but you cannot ignore the data on Motul and its performance. Whatever they do, it works. They've been making a scooter synthetic for a few years now too.

I have a buddy that reads about oils and recommended the Motul 7100 oil you reference and I found a gallon for $51 on Amazon which is $13/liter which is reasonable. I decided go with the K&N KN-164 oil filter as I trust the brand and as a bonus it has a nut for easy removal. Now I am trying to figure out if I need to replace the the o-ring or crush washer on the drain plug. I also need to buy the ODB plug and the MotoScan app so I can reset the service light.

Has anyone used the MotoScan app? I had a wireless ODB adaptor for my car but it‘s compatible with the MotoScan app.
