Oil leak

1 week old GT with 200 miles - noticed oil drops where I park - checked the oil when purchased (between the MIN and MAX on the dipstick) - checked again today and is at MIN mark. Cleaned the bottom case near the drip and then sprayed foot powder on the area - picture is after a brief ride. (have pictures but can't posf here) Front of the bike is to the left -sidestand bolts barely visible at top of frame. Oil drop visible on lowest point of engine but appears to be coming from above from right side of the case. What is in that area that could leak? Have heard of one other case where engine was replaced due to porous case. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That's a new one to me. I have 1,300 miles and haven't lost a drop. I'd get her back over to the dealer asap to ensure you don't have something serious going on. There is a gasket between those two casings, perhaps there is some issue with the gasket itself or lack or torque on some important screws? Hate to state the obvious, but if it is sitting and leaking (not under pressure), you have something quite wrong. Good luck and let us know what it ends up being.....

Turns out there is a pinhold leak (casting flaw) in the rear cover - the dealer is ordering a new engine from Germany which will be here in 2-3 weeks and then 2-3 days to replace the engine - all covered under warranty.

I know of at least 2 other owners (worldwide) that have had the same problem - there may have been a bad batch of engines - my bike was built on 09/2012.

I'm riding it in the meantime - just keeping an eye on the oil - with about 400 miles total on the bike it has lost about 0.5 liter of oil.

I noticed today...with 115 miles on the clock..... that an oil leak developed at the swingarm/final drive area. Looks potentially like the seal/gasket area if you look at the picture. I have alerted the dealer and awaiting their response for action. Will keep the Forum informed as to next steps.

this should be an easy fix, just a gasket. every service the case bolts should be re-torqued, hopefully that's all yours might need.

i have worked on a GT that had a casing replaced, i did wonder why it had been done.

That looks like a leak at the vent on top of the case. It doesn't really lose much oil but apparently oil vapor leaks out of that vent and follows the joint in the case. I've wiped off the accumulation a couple of times and find there's actually little oil at all mostly just a tiny bit of oil and dust. Someone else on this forum had the problem and apparently cured it with a new seal or such on that vent.
