With cruise and electric mirrors the Beemers would really be adding the type of riding experience that might make even hardcore Tmaxers think about a move.

Tighter, more compact fairing but more unfriendly looking. I just got back from the supermarket and am glad I have a GT with the top box. The Sport looks like fun but not if it means I have to take the Jeep on errands like grocery shopping and such. The GT isn't far behind the Sport in performance but a lot more useful in utility.

You can put a top box on a sport too! The difference in capacity under the seat really isn't that much.
Come on, we all know you GT riders wanted the electric windshield!!

Ah now that isn't what I've seen. My GT has the OEM top box. With the under seat storage as well I can carry just as much stuff inside as I could in my Goldwing. On a trip it would be kinda hard to empty out half or more of the stuff under the seat every time I got underway.
The Sport is cool but the GT is Classy.

The difference under the seat is substantial if you actually plan on RIDING with your "stuff" and not just leaving it parked somewhere. I can get my tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and three days worth of clothing packed under the seat of my GT leaving the trunk for "incidentals."

I don't mind using a duffle bag when necessary , and I traded a Silverwing with as much storage as a GT, so didn't think the storage was such an issue.
Plus , I have a set of side cases which I don't mind using. Traveling with as little as possible isn't a goal of mine.

One thing I like about the large under seat area is that I can transport my guns to the range or my gun club securely. Most people don't even know there's a storage area under the seat. I often have three target pistols, ammo, range bag and tools in the bike on Monday evenings when I go to my weekly Precision (Bullseye) practice match. I can even fit my AR-15 in the under seat area when I go to the range for some long range rifle practice. This way I can enjoy two of my hobbies, competitive shooting and riding my GT in one go.

Clearly a choice had to be made: Sporty looks v. GT storage. I haven't needed the extra storage but I would like it.

And seriously, once you strip off the bodywork, the two scooters are EXACTLY the same. Same engine, same suspension, same frames, same steering geometry, etc. You don't give up ANY of the Sport's handling by buying the GT, but you DO lose the GT's utility by buying the Sport.

The frame is slightly larger, which probably accounts for the weight difference, along with the larger body panels, although a minor weight increase.
The wheel base is slightly longer on the GT according to one road test I read when they came out. I didn't buy my Sport for luggage capacity that's for sure.
The two grand I saved helped my decision, but, I always liked the Sport better and knew I didn't need the electric windshield or the little extra storage. My Silverwing storage was always full of stuff I didn't need to carry anyway!!

I am looking throught the technical manual and here are some snippets:

How about some performance info:
0-100 km/h GT 7.5 sec Sport 7.1 seconds
50-100 km/h GT 4.5 sec Sport 4.1 seconds.

According to the BMW tech manual those are about the only differences, other than the obvious cosmetic/standard feature differences.

Well, what else can I do while waiting for family on Thanksgiving.

Yup, and the performance differences noted are down purely to the weight differences. I could PROBABLY stand to lose 26 lbs which would make up for that, but it ain't gonna happen TODAY of all days. ;)
