Well, it's done. Papers signed, deal made, and delivery to be made on a date in this Chicago weather that's conducive to riding, or at least isn't ridiculously frigid. Black/black C600 Sport. I looked at a lot of bikes before I decided on this one. I hesitated to buy a scooter until I really thought about it. I've seen guys on motorcycles with scowls, with angry looks and with bad intentions. Clearly, riding a motorcycle, in and of itself, does not make you happy. Oh, there are many happy people who own and ride motorcycles, but actually riding a motorcycle will not make you a happy person. On the other hand, I have never seen anyone on a scooter in a bad mood. In fact, the opposite - they are invariably happy and they are smiling. I made the decision based on this, again: I've never seen anyone on a scooter in a bad mood. I also realized that in my dotage I have the need to carry a whole bunch of little crap - or at least I want a whole bunch of crap close to me in case I need it. The scooter solves this problem nicely.

Now - why not a Vespa, a Silverwing, a Burgman, a Kymco, a Chinapanese 1500 buck scoot? Why the Beemer and why the Sport as opposed to the GT? Well, honestly, I loved the Vespa. I liked that 300 GTS a lot. A whole lot. But it was too small to accomplish my other need, which was to commute in Chicago traffic. I never really considered the Kymco or the Chinapanese bikes because I'm really not close to any dealers for them, and they didn't have the feel of the SW, the Burgman, or the BMWs. I've owned an r1200rt and I had the Bmw riding gear, and that stupid reason is probably why I leaned toward the BMW. I didn't want to buy new gear.

So why the Sport as opposed to the GT? The GT is a very, very cool machine. Chock full of neat doo-dads, like the automatic windscreen and the big, big storage space. But when I compared the Sport with the GT the Sport seemed so much smaller, so much narrower, so much lighter (yea, I know its only 40 pounds or so, but it seemed like a lot more) and I liked how it acted on the road better, I like how I know it will fit in my small garage better, I like the look of it more, and boy, did I get a deal on the Sport I couldn't get on the GT. Probably that last part had a lot to do with it, but the other stuff I really liked as well. The SW and Burgman seemed ponderously large in comparison. So here I am.

When I get this thing delivered, I will post pictures. Until then, I'll be content to read what you guys say about both bikes, content in the knowledge that I will be on the road soon. See ya'.

Welcome to the C600 club! Hopefully, I will see you around Chicago this spring (I commute down to the Loop daily on my c600). I'm the guy on the bad ass blue one. My co-worker has the slower silver C600. You sound like me when I bought my c600. I was on a Vespa 300 and while I loved it, I don't think it was really up to the task of Chicago commuting. It would have been fine if all I did was ride down to the loop from Lincoln Park or other city neighborhoods. however, the first time I took it on Lake Shore Drive trying to do 65-70 I was like WTF? Felt like I was on a skateboard and I won't get into the suspension in regards to the potholes. My C600 has been my do it all bike and I absolutely love it and I've never had a scowl on my face.

I will also tell you that be prepared to answer a lot of questions about your bike. You will get all kinds of people wanting to know about your c600 because it looks so bad ass. The best part is embarrassing the Harley riders off the line or seeing people look in amazement when you lift your seat and throw your briefcase or a few bags of groceries under the seat.

Hope to see you around.

Must be a 2012 model or he just isn't a very good rider. :p

I love my C600 for pretty much all the reasons listed above.

Thank you for confirming my hunch about the Vespa. That's exactly as I thought it would be - me bouncing helplessly over potholes at 60 mph, being absolutely miserable. I'll be looking out for you when I'm in the loop - I'm there on business two or three times a week. I've got this app "Curb Ninja" that allegedly gives you the location of free or near free motorcycle parking. Of course, it returns nothing in a search of downtown Chicago. I see cycles and scooters parked on North Clark street as I come in, but I think they're paying for that. For obvious reasons as a matter of public policy there should be free or discounted parking for scoots and mc's in urban areas, but the parking in our city, as you know, was sold long ago to a foreign corporation (Abu Dhabi, believe it or not), so I doubt we'll see a change of parking philosophies in our lifetime. Until then, I will keep searching and hopefully I can share some parking locations with you.

Thanks for the welcome. I am unsure about the blue or silver, but I was assured by my salesperson that black, being the fastest and coolest color, was no longer even ranked with the other colors. The hawk does not hunt the fly, apparently.:D

1st welcome!
2nd Blue is confirmed by Dyno as the fastest.
3rd black is the color most commonly associated with mourning, the end, secrets, magic, power, violence, evil, and elegance.
4th blue is the color most commonly associated with harmony, faithfulness, confidence, distance, infinity, the imagination and cold
5th public opinion polls it is overwhelmingly the most popular color, chosen by almost half of both men and women as their favorite color.

Hope you have many happy miles, commute or otherwise.

Unless, of course, you have a red GT.;)

X1 vs Juke Nismo awd.

Which do you think would be a better choice in snowy climate?
The weight balance and awd handling of the bmw is well founded is years of r&d. Not to mention a longer wheelbase help the bmw.
Not to mention the bmw x1 is entry level german, and the juke "nismo" is a throw 350z parts in a tall short, currently underpowered chassis.

But im a new bmw driver and not a fancy writer who would bend persons ear with facny jibber jabber...[emoji12]

When riding, why would you rest your BALLS on something BLUE? Just sounds wrong, somehow...
