Remote battery life

After 3 months of ownership it screen on my c400 said the remote battery was low, fair enough, this was duly replaced. A week later it said again my remote battery was low,Ok so i got dud, probably been in stock a while. Replaced again from a different source and week or so later i get the same message on the scoot screen. Things now start looking a bit suspicious to whats going on,I ring the local bmw agent ,and they are happy to supply a replacement for an exorbitant sum .In seeking advice ,someone asked how away from the machine i kept the remote when machine was stored. This was in the same garage about 3 metres away from the machine I,replace the battery again and move it well away from the machine . That was a month ago and the battery is still good , it looks like i have a rather chatty remote .Not sure whether this phenomenon that key less machines have

Interesting.

I've had my C 400 GT since early June, and no messages like that. I keep the fob in the kitchen, which is maybe 15 feet from where the bike sits in the garage, but is on the other side of an insulated sheetrock wall. I'll report back whenever I get the first message like you've gotten.

I purchased our C 400 GT in August and a couple of weeks ago I got the message on the screen that the remote battery needed to be replaced. It showed the battery was at 50% and all functions of the remote were working. I checked the battery with my Fluke meter and it didn't register any voltage. I did check the new battery and it was fine and I do keep the fob in the kitchen which is about 15 feet from the bike. I think I'm going to check the battery again in May and see how it's doing. I would have though it would have lasted longer. Might have to think about keeping an extra battery on the bike.

The average remote battery life is i am told is one and a half to two years' i went thro 4 battery's in a coup[e of months recently and after a lot of messing about ,it appears to be the quality of battery that matters, That is to say i was using battery's off a card ,a dozen for a pound or so . My local BMW said theirs would last a lot longer .Only half convinced i let them fit a BMW supplied varta battery. So far so good its lasted a month or two already, it looks like all battery's are not created equal

I totally agree with you on the quality of batteries. I happened to have some batteries that are on a card that I got from Amazon. If the one I put in the remote doesn't last I'll get a Duracell or Eveready. I wish I would have looked at the brand of battery that came with the remote. They must be crap batteries also because mine lasted less than 6 months. No matter what brand I stay with I'm still going to keep a spare on the bike.

I’ve had my C400GT for 4 years now and only replaced the battery on each remote once….I bought a spare just in case.

Both remotes are store in close vicinity to the bike…no more than 15’ away.

I found the Panasonic batteries work better than the Duracells

Well it's been less than a month with a new crap Amazon battery and yesterday it went bad. We were on a ride yesterday and about 20 minutes into the ride the warning came up that the battery was at 50%. When we got back I went up to the hardware store and bought a 4 pack of Duracell batteries and am keeping the other three on the bike.

Yeah i carry a spare now , the other makes of remote fobs dont seem as fussy as the BMW. When battery gets really bad, the machine comes up with, Remote key not detected no further engine restarts possible . Gives you a very good reason to ride very gently back home again.
