Yesterday I went on a group ride with some riding buddies. I didn't tell them I was showing up with the C650. Only one person knew I had the C650. Everyone else has only seen me on one of my sport bikes on the group rides. When I showed up at the meeting spot, it was funny how the Sport was getting all the attention from all the people in the group. Lots of questions and all of them were stunned it had a 650cc motor; ok...it's not quite 650cc.
Now what was funny was at one point in the ride, three of us broke loose from the group and started to have a little fun on the twisties. The lead rider was on a Kawasaki Concours 14. The rider just ahead of me was on a BMW K 1600. We hit this some what tight 90 degree corner. The lead rider made it through fine. The second rider on the K 1600 didn't make it and had to stand up his bike and run off into a side road. I made the corner and fell in behind the lead rider. After a pause to see if the K 1600 rider kept it upright, we took off. We were carrying some decent speed and all along, I was right on his tail. When we got to the rest stop, he realized it was me that was behind him the entire time. Then he realized/remembered I was on a scooter. He was shocked I was able to keep pace with him. This began more discussion of the Sport among the rest of the riding group. Eventually, I barked out....Respect the Scooter!
