Review of 2022 BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter

Very happy BMW is jumping into electric motorcycles with both feet.

2022 BMW CE 04 is coming to the USA, now listed for $11,700 Pounds ($15,667 USD).

42hp with top speed of 75 mph. It's basically equal to a 400cc BMW scooter, with no messy gasoline parts.

0 to 30 mph in 2.6 seconds.

0 to 60 mph in one hour and 12 minutes (just kidding, 9.1 seconds). Review says "acceleration is instant," with no lag or revving up needed.

Keyless. 15-inch tires. Underseat storage for a full face helmet. Glove box for cell phone. Integrated map screen. Three year warranty.

Pathetic range of 80 miles but charges in one hour 40 minutes on a household socket (with optional fast charger that's another $1,000).

It's expensive but hopefully the price will come down as technology improves and competition increases.

Video test ride:

Coming to Florida this March in my favorite BMW color (white). I will be kicking the tires on one of these. Already love the seat, which looks like you can slide back for perfect, full leg extension. Brilliant idea.

It doesn't kill me. I like the idea of it, price is so so. The Evolution was also about that same price, at least it was more conventional looking, which in my mind is a good thing. Evolution also had about the same range so I'm not quite sure where they have made any great improvements except in styling. On the evolution, the battery box was the frame of the bike, not sure about this one. And no way to put a top box on it. Whats a scoot without a top box?

With an 80 mile limit, it can only be used for modest joyrides or as a commuter bike. I almost bought an Evolution before I got the C650. It was NOS and I could have gotten it for about 10G (pre-covid of course), But what stopped me was that the local dealer would not service it since it required them to have at least one tech certified for the High Voltage work around the battery. They didn't think they would sell enough to make that worthwhile. Also take into account its a scooter and they don't sell a whole lot of those either. 0 for 2, lose/lose, call it what you want, but it probably wont ever take off in this country.

You can get a top box. It costs extra. Everything costs extra. Heated seat and grips. Top box. Fast charging. Dynamic mode. Extra. Extra. Extra. Extra. Guess that's one way to keep the base price "low." You can click on "Build Your Own" to see the options:

I was pretty interested in the Evolution, too, but ran into the same thing you did. BMW dealer here wouldn't service it because "we will never sell enough to justify the equipment we have to buy."

I like the looks of the CE 04 but the price is absurd if you want one with all the "extras," which I would. Luckily they made GT's up to 2020 models so I'm good for several years. Electric bikes will only get better and cheaper.

Price and range, and slow acceleration (9 seconds to 60 doesn't seem right) will keep me from being interested. I did seriously look into BMW and Zero electric bikes when I bought my first one when moving to the US in 2018 but at that time decided the limited range made it a non-starter for me. Seems the technology has not developed much in these 4 years.

Looks great for a suburban commute option, but not much more. Urban riders don't have enough charging options yet, and plugs get scarce once you get far enough away from a town.

Riding the CE 04 for one of my frequent trips would add around 4 hours of charge time to a journey that already takes 6 hours of actual driving.

Nope. (Though I wish we had electric bikes with a 200-mile range already.)

I already feel smug enough getting ~45 mpg using dinosaur juice while riding my Sport like I stole it.

Nah to pricey for me and that 1hr 12 minutes to get up to 60 LMAO Honda did try to sell the electric Silverwing
and that did not go to well. So they dropped it. But that is a good idea for BMW selling scooters here. But also
the charging times takes hrs and you can only go so far.
