Side Mirrors swap out

Swapped out the handlebar mirrors for these. Much better for me to see behind me.
You can't just leave us hanging ...

1) Are those Skene Photon Boosters, like I have (or maybe Photon Blasters)?

(From my C 400 GT gallery pic https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-74 )

2) Link (or brand) of the new mirrors?

3) Link (or brand) of what looks like additional LEDs just below the headlights?

4) Link (or brand) of what I gather are hand guards?

5) That looks like an aftermarket windscreen, correct? (I have a Wunderlich windscreen, but I'm not familiar with the one you have.)

6) That's a Wunderlich sidestand enlarger, correct (at least, it looks like the one I have)?

Nice bike!

I wired my Photon Boosters to the unused sat nav plug on my C 400 GT. That said, I'd be interested in any words of advice you care to share, regarding your wiring work.

I can't tell how or where those mirrors mount? (With the picture blown up I can see it.)

I also swapped out my mirrors to ones that I already had. They went in the same place as the original mirrors so it was not a great improvment until I added some mirror extenders which raised them about one inch and extended them about 2 inches. Now the mirrors work much better for me. I can see behind the bike as well as on the sides. I bought these extenders:

I belive these would have worked well with the stock mirrors as well but I had some mirrors I liked just a little better.

1) Regarding the mirrors that @teleman609 pictured in the first post, it looks to me as if they include a base that has some folds to it, after which a flange goes under the windscreen trim/holding piece, and probably has holes that those same bolts go through. Or maybe there's just one piece each side, i.e., the stock trim/holding pieces are actually replaced with some more of each mirror's base, which is larger and has more folds than I thought (although the shape of the pictured trim pieces looks identical to me to the shape of the stock trim pieces).

At least that's what it looks like to me. Until @teleman609 confirms -- or shoots down -- my guess, I've saved that original pic, made it a little brighter (so note that the colors are no longer real) and cropped it around that area -- perhaps this will help:

2) Thanks for the link for those extenders on Amazon. Those bolts were the right thread direction for each side of the stock mirrors?

"Those bolts were the right thread direction for each side of the stock mirrors?"

Hi Bill:

The holes in the bike are threaded regular right hand tighten. (So the standard bolts suppied with the extenders will work fine.) The OEM mirrors are threaded so that one is left hand and one is right hand. However there are converters on the ends of the mirrors that are about 3/4 inch long. (At least there are on mine) The right hand mirror converter takes the left hand threaded mirror and makes it into a standard rt hand threading. (The other converter is like a pass through rt to rt.) So if you keep the little black converters attached to the mirrors you will not have an issue. And with the 3/4 inch OEM converters attached to the mirrors they work in the standard threads in the new extenders which move the mirrors up and out. (I hope this makes sense.) I tested it out today and that is the way it works on my bike.
I think BMW complicated this when they did not need to.

Hope that helps.

Sorry gentlemen, my emails went to my junk folder for some reason. Let’s see if answer you guys efficiently.

Wspollack, those are skene Phantom boosters. Went by your recommendations, thank you.

The lights below the headlight are cheap Amazon LEDs but adds a cool look I thought. Might just get better lights for that location in the future.

The stock mirrors were just not doing it for me so I looked around and saw those took a gamble. It paid off because I love them!
I see everything behind me now without having to move my head down. It does come with the whole kit or can be bought separately.

Hey, some nice links there -- thanks.

I hope you're as thrilled with the Photon Boosters as I am, i.e., I hope that you don't feel like I steered you wrong on those.

You use the sat-nav connector for a power source for the PBs and those CZC LED strips?

Oh no I love the skene lights. I think I’ll be ordering the rear sets as well, soon. Thank you for your detailed photos,
As for the windshield and hand guards bought the bike with the bike. Bought it from someone that added so much with only 1000k miles. He painted the lower part it the wind shield black. Gives it a nice look i think.
I’ll try to add better pics soon.

I did do the dynamic upgrade as you already know. Posted it on a different thread. It does add a little more I think but I really did it for the bmw M screens, looks so much better imo. Engine breaking is noticeable. I ride a Harley so I’m accustomed to engine breaking. It was a plus for me.
I have YSS rear shocks so the claim of suspension dampening is non existent for me.

I’m looking to do a custom swat next and hoping to lowering it some. I have a short inseam and want to be flatter on the ground.

I’ll post more pics soon

Hey, did you see the pics at the link -- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CPP89WRS/ -- that @teleman609 provided? Here's one of the pics, i.e., my first guess that the mirror-holding brackets go underneath the stock windscreen-holding trim piece, and through the stock bolts, was correct. Here's the relevant pic on that page:

Hey, thanks again -- I was wondering about that very thing, i.e., what happened to the stock threaded area.

BTW, it occurs to me that those stock threaded holes that formerly held the stock mirrors would also be useful for adding some RAM balls -- say, https://rammount.com/products/ram-b-272u or https://rammount.com/products/ram-b-252u -- after fitting a replacement bolt.

I added the piece between the windshield and the bracket, going over rough roads made the mirrors wobble too much for my liking. Felt like it needed some support. I also think that that it would need longer bolts. I just used the stocks for now.

I do like the positioning of the windshield mounted mirrors up front farther forward than stock. I allways felt like the stock mirrors were too close to me. That new position is likely easier to see with less haed/eye movement making it easier to keep your eyes on the road. I don't know this, I am just guessing.

Very accurate description. I couldn’t have said it better myself, lol.

@teleman609,

You’ve had the mirrors now for a few weeks. What are your opinions….pros and cons?

I’m thinking about doing the same upgrade as I do not liking where my mirrors are mounted even with extenders. I have to make an effort to look at the mirrors vs having them mounted further out where they will be part of your peripheral vision while looking forward.

Thank you in advance!

Yes, I haven’t been riding a lot but the few times that I have been since the new mirrors, I’d have to say I like the way better than the stock position on the bars. It isn’t perfect but it is way better.
Pros are looks way better than stock imo, but just the positioning of the mirrors I’m not struggling to look behind me anymore.

Cons are the instructions are non existent. I’d was a bit confused at first because they give you extra hardware, I guess for different applications. Once I got it I was able to dial it in. After a few test rides I felt the mirrors bouncing even over small potholes. It just didn’t feel right. I added extra support with rubber grommets I found in the garage. I’ll send you some pics if I can. Hard to see from the photos.

Overall very satisfied with the quality of the mirrors and the placement. After you set it up where you like it use loc tight to make sure they aren’t coming loose. Oh and one more thing. You may need to but 4 nuts and bolts to attach the mirror to the bracket it was not in my box. The bolts they sent me were for the base mount for different applications as stated before.

Good luck, let us know how you made out.

Thanks for the details!

If I’m understanding you correctly, the bolts used to secure the mirror to the brackets were missing.

Would you know the size specifications for the hardware?

What is the clearance between the bracket and windscreen? I was thinking of using nylock nuts to keep mirrors securely mounted.

TIA!
