I purchased an ex demo C650GT recently. It has SVA fitted, unfortunately. It is totally useless at picking up vehicles in the blind spot. It is good at picking up bushes, road signs, vehicles I pass on a nearside lane, even New Forest livestock. It often shows up a yellow warning triangle and SVA. The dealer has checked it and could not find a registered error in the ECU.

As I don't need it, don't want it and it only causes something to distract, I would like to get rid of it.

Does anyone know haw to switch it of without the cambus system throwing up a permanent warning.

Bummer. I do not have that feature on my 2014 and really liked the idea. Anything to make riding safer. But only if it works. Would be interesting to hear if others have the same experience. I know I have that on my car and do find it helpful.

Hi Mike55,

I recently acquired a C650GT and came to exactly the same conclusion. My dealer just rather abandoned me to my own devices after one ride to check.

My solution is to use a secondary blind spot mirror from Herbert Richter - I have just reviewed it with photo on the Forum.

After a relatively short while I simply stopped noticing the yellow flashes. Initially I was going to use some black self-amalgamating tape wound around the pillar as this becomes a solid sleeve and is none-sticky but now I won't bother.

Have you realised yet that if you disconnect the battery for any reason (e.g. to add an Optimate lead) then your screen movement will die? Happened to me the day I bought it - with a trip back to the dealership to get the ECU sorted.

For all the irritants, it is still a damn fine bike and I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Grample,
BTW if you disconnect the battery the owner's manual states to re-set the ASC to provide correct functionality (that is on my 650 Sport 2017 model)

Hi dukdukman,

That sounds really useful if you mean it says re-set the ASC to re-set the screen travel limits as well as the ASC. I can't find it in my manual. What section of the manual is the reference in?
I really don't want to try it if it doesn't work because I've got some distance to go to get a dealer to reset the limits in the ECU.
Thanks

Grample, in my Rider Manual C 650 Sport (2017 model) in Chapter 4 - Operation - on page 55 under the heading 'Calibrating ASC" is a detailed step-by-step instruction. More on the ASC is in Chapter 7 on page 82.
Perhaps it is different on the GT, however I always believed it's more or less the same 'under-the-bonnet-stuff' .....
If you don't have this info, I am happy to copy the text of my instructions here, however be mindful that it may do more harm than good ....

Hi, if it is any comfort, my 2016 GT has SVA and they do exactly the same as Mike55's do. The main dealer had a look a oook at them, and could find no fault. He agreed (discreetly) with me, that they are really not very good, and a bit of a waste of time.

I do the tried and trusted life saver checks, and do not use or rely on, any info from the very annoying flashing triangles.

I am amazed BMW added them, they must have had the same problems in testing.

Was wondering around the forum and spotted this thread. Ah! I thought my SVA is rubbish as well. Only just got the bike so something I noted down when I take it for my first service.

Thank god I didn't pay extra for it as it's rubbish. Not that it's needed anyway. Just a gimmick. Think I'll just wrap round the lights with insulating tape and forget it's there. Go back to looking after my own safety before changing lanes and not rely on some useless eltronicky stuff.

Having test ridden a bike with SVA I realised it gave 50 false warnings to every valid one and to make matters worse it doesn't work over 50mph as part of the spec. I ordered it on my 2017 C650GT to get the LED running light that came with the “Visibility Package” Sticking blind spot mirrors over the warning lights solved the problem for me!

I have disconnected the battery on my bike briefly without issues with the Screen or ASC.
