Sport Backrest

I haven't seen any backrests mentioned anywhere for the Sport, so, I decided to make a proto-type. The bike ergonomics seem to favor a slight forward lean which is appropriate for aggressive riding, and doesn't seem to warrant a backrest at all . Unfortunately, my back won't take unsupported riding all day, so I need a back rest and a modified forward shift for my butt to make that work. Of course, I didn't want to lock myself into a permanent seating position so what ever I made must be adjustable, and not require a hole in the seat.
What I built for myself is simple and reasonably comfortable. The actual backrest piece will be improved soon, it works for now and has allowed experimenting with lumbar support and position. When not in use the backrest can be flipped back out of the way, or into position in seconds, even while moving.
I used longer bolts and spacers to mount the pivot brackets to the front passenger handhold bolts and a rolling pin wrapped with foam for the cushion. The cushion doesn't spin as that would allow it to roll up your back and out of position. It dismounts with a couple of quick release pins and you can lift the seat a small amount which allows getting your sweat shirt out of storage with out removal.IMG_0123[1].jpgIMG_0118[1].jpgIMG_0119[1].jpg

The backrest pushes me forward about 1 1/2 inches, which bends my arms a little and supports my back.

Very creative. I like the idea. Just rotate it back to lift the seat, and then forward again for a back rest. The concept should also work to increase the back rest height on a GT too.

Utopia do a Backrest for the C600 :)

Utopia Products - Motorcycle Driver Backrest - Motorcycle Seat

I bought a Utopia Backrest for my previous Scoot, a Suzuki Burgman 400 and I still have it.
I have seen the fitting instructions for the C600 and it is not for the faint hearted!
You need to remove the seat, remove the seat cover and then remove the seat foam.
Once all that is done you then drill the seat base to accept the Utopia bracket.
The bracket pokes thru' the foam and then the seat cover is replaced.
I have seen the BMW version and I will be modifying the Suzuki bracket to fit the BMW
Watch this space! :D

I didn't see the utopia before, and it looks good. I didn't consider the bolt through seat option as I have an aversion to making holes through seats that are supposed to remain water tight, over the storage bin. Then , now that I have tried mine out, I really like being able to swing the backrest out of the way while riding, as it allows a change of butt position to increase endurance and allow for an aggressive riding position when needed.
The Utopia does look good and is probably the way to go if you ride "two up" a lot. I don't, although a small person might ride the back seat with mine swung back, I haven't checked. What I built will be a lot easier to build for the home mechanics here. I did weld a couple of nuts on for the "Heim Joints" (SKUTORR gets two points for knowing what those eyes are called) it could be built with alternative joints. I used the Heim Joints because they are threaded and therefore allow for position adjustment. There are other ways to do this.
Yes you could do this with a GT, also.

Looks like a great idea but I've got a heated seat - so I don't think one is in my future.
My seats are heated as well :)
When I get around to stripping the seat I expect the heat elements will be sitting on top of the foam.
The bracket for the utopia fits between the rider and pillion positions.
So I am hoping I will be able to fit the bracket between the heated elements without touching them.
Fingers crossed! :D
