The Joy of Riding

My son gave me a membership to ancestry.com for Christmas so I've been digging my roots. Everybody has a family tree and we all have stories. The thing that put a big beaming grin on my face was this classified ad. 100-years ago, my great-great grandfather was riding around Rochester, New York on a 1921 Indian motorcycle -- with a sidecar for women and children. I'll bet my GT he used it to bring home groceries from Wegmans (super-good local grocery chain), and people marveled at how much he could carry. Most of all, I'm sure he just enjoyed the feeling of riding a two-wheeler, moving through nature and the breeze on a fast bicycle you never have to pedal. We have ABS and windscreens and more smoothness and power than he ever dreamed of, but across those 100 years, the simple pleasure is still the same.
