And he is SERIOUS. What I predicted after the debut of the C-series scoots has happened; KYMCO is going all-in with a new "Tmax Killer" that many had thought the C-600 could (should?) have been. With a HUGE introduction at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show on the occasion of KYMKO's 50th anniversary, they rolled-out the new K 50 Concept. And it's looking ready for production very soon.

All of the European Press and Forums have gone NUTS over the new bike. More Tmax than a Tmax, with room for 2 helmets underneath, the power of a C-650 Sport, state-of-the-art everything, a stressed-member parallel twin engine connected to all-aluminum framework with a huge wet clutch, massive CVT system beefy enough to handle the power, ABS, twin power modes, all LED lighting, Brembo brakes on inverted struts, and more. Everything that the C-650 Sport and Tmax 530 offer but with KYMCO rock-solid reliability, cutting-edge features, and expected to be faster, lighter and CHEAPER than either the BMW or Yamaha. They rolled it out in Tokyo to say "IN YOUR FACE!" to Yamaha.

To Quote KYMCO:

The K50 Concept is a “Super Touring” scooter that possesses great performance capability, superb handling characteristics, advanced light-weight technology, an optimized riding position design and ample underseat storage space. It defines “The Thrills of Touring” and is a model that represents the “Win My Heart” spirit of KYMCO. With the premiere of the KYMCO K50 Concept, KYMCO has not only set the standard for the new scooter segment “Super Touring”, but also the landmark for KYMCO to becoming one of the most recognized and respected global brands for the next 50 years.

I may be seeing it wrong but it seems that the front faring was designed to move more air away from the rider than the GT - more like a "big" touring bike front faring that does not have giant "holes" in it. An interesting feat given its otherwise sexy aggressive look.

Yes, very cool. More competition in this space will, hopefully, expand the appeal of the big touring scooters.

It's getting tougher to call these things scooters...the traditional step through is disappearing (or gone altogether) and power/handling metrics are more traditional motorcycle than an around town scooter with 12" wheels. It all started a number of years ago, of course, but a number of serious players have seen the light over the past few years and are ramping up their mid-size engine CVT/under seat storage offerings.

I wonder if a new segment name will show up.

Looks good but too bad it has a CVT. I would like to see a scooter (Hondas not included) that uses a DSG transmission,
My cars have had Brembo brakes and my current car has a 7 speed DSG why not scooters?

Looks good. It does look kind of a like a t-max clone with a BMW 1200rt upfront. We sure Kymco isn't making tmaxes? I'd be curious to see the performance numbers.

I still don't think they will see a ton of them here in the states. I can see Europeans and other countries buying them though.

Whats wrong with a CVT? And they have more ratio's then any manual transmission.
