Thinking of buying a used C650GT, anything I need to know upfront ?

Hello everyone,

I am about to buy a used C650GT from 2015 initially imported from USA but later brought to Europe with 10400 km on it and I was wondering if there is something I need to know about the bike before I buy it. The bike is offered to me for 7000 euros and seems and runs ok but I am wary of any hidden costs or troubles as the BMW dealership in my country is awful and completely useless and I might have to take the bike for repairs to a different country.

So anything I should check before I buy the bike ? The owner says that the bike was recently serviced in non-official BMW shop and had oil and filters changed and that I don't need to do anything about it right now.

Thanks you in advance, Ljupco

Make sure it has the hydraulic cam chain tensioner. Mine did not, and I have been left stranded twice. BMW refuses to acknowledge it, and claims my bike has the hydraulic tensioner by virtue of the VIN number. Have someone personally, that is. Visually check it.

How can I tell the difference between a hydraulic one and regular, any picture or part number. My Scooter is 2013 model, I bought it on 2021 with 7300 miles. I called BMW and the tensioner was changed in 2015 as part of the recall. But I don’t know what tensioner they installed.

The hydraulic tensioner has an oil line running to it, neither of the manual tensioners have an oil line. I look at You Tubes on these bikes, look through the manuals for service tips and study the parts catalogues at Max and Ben's. There is a second gen manual tensioner that is supposed to be an improvement over the oil powered one, and from what I can tell it is a direct replacement for the tensioner, ( 2 bolts, remove the old tensioner, install the new and tighten the 2 bolts then remove the spring lock to load the tension guide) with the hydraulic tensioner it looks like the kit has a different tensioner guide and I think another guide also needs to be replaced.
