TMPS Battery Life?

Anybody know what the battery life of the TPMS is? My 2013 C650GT is showing "--" for both front and rear tires.

Interesting you say that. I noticed about 2 months ago, mine would take longer to show the pressure and is now off regularly by about 2psi front and rear. Never an issue before.

I have been in the auto industry since before TPMS sensors were around for cars, and OEM and aftermarket direct sensor suppliers are a bit varied on sensor battery life, but in general they are saying 5-7 years and we have seen many go as long as 10 years. We have just started replacing more and more sensors on older cars and as TPMS was mandated on cars in the USA in 2008, that puts many of these sensors at 8-10 years as some cars had TPMS prior to 2008. The sensors are designed so that they shut down and do not transmit a signal when not moving so as to conserve battery life. With that in mind, as most motorcycle riders ride less than they drive you might expect the sensor life to be even longer. This is also why the TPMS light does not give a reading until you start to move.

It would seem unusual that the sensor battery would fail after 3 years, but I am sure temperature and other factors may have some effect on battery life as well and I have not seen an actual sensor from a motorcycle vs. a car so they may be smaller and thus a lower capacity battery.

Mine is showing "RDC!" which I guess means there is a problem with the battery. Anyone know of a way to turn off the warning light?

Probably buy the $400 tool. At least the same tool lets you fix the windscreen if it stops working after you change the battery. :)
