Top Box

Has anyone bought and installed the top box sold by BMW? What are your impressions regarding quality, etc.?

I have a spare Givi Monokey box and universal mounting plate and I wonder if the BMW box and mounting plate is manufactured by Givi. I like the look of my spare box better than the BMW box.

I have the BMW box and I am very happy with it...but it is expensive. Shad makes the box for BMW and I would put their quality on par with Givi's boxes...very high. If you like the box you have I would suggest sticking with it!

Thanks ScooterRaton. I just also found out that Givi has come out with a brand new carrier rack to fit the C600 Sport. The new Givi rack can be ordered with a plate to fit the Monolock or a plate to fit the Monokey series. I like the Givi box I have and can now save some money to spend on other goodies.

I bought the Shad Top case and it was a breeze to install. Quality is good and saw the review on Web Bike World. Spot on. Really enjoy having the extra space.

I was at Americade this past Saturday and checked out the Givi box (the smallest box) and mounting plate they wanted $100 for the box and $ 189.00 for the mounting plate a total of $289.00 I bought a Shad box 29 liters an mounting plate made for the 650 gt for a total of $179.00 big difference in price and a larger box than the Givi

I installed a Givi rack and top box yesterday. I use my bike daily for running errands and needed the extra carrying capacity. The Givi rack was easy to install, well-built and sturdy. I already had a top case that I like and saved some cash - which may be the only money I'll ever save owning this beauty.

I'm not sure how much the Givi case is, but the Shad mounting kit, 40L top case with cargo rack, and back rest came in just under $300. I'd highly recommend.

Shad makes an excellent product and it appears that the Shad rack may be easier to mount than the Givi mount. Givi cases (both Monolock and Monkey) are made to be easily removed by simply turning a key and the box support plate is a finished piece. I have the option to remove the box when I don't need it and the bike still looks good. I don't know if Shad cases are designed that way.

Shad works the same. With the top case off you can use the base plate as a cargo rack. Just as easy to remove. The Shad top case came with a bungee hook and you can use for the base plate. Normally, I just leave the top case on. I've got the backrest installed and its safer when taking my 10 year old son out for a ride.
