USB won't charge and weird cellphone holder

Got hold of a 2016 BMW C650 Sport this summer. A few technical problems maybe someone here can help me with?

1) The charger adapter doesn't work (DC 12/24 V cigarette lighter to USB) so I can't charge my cellphone. I took this from my previous scooter and it worked then. Are there different sockets on BMW scooters for this sort of thing?
2) The bike came with a weird cellphone holder I've never seen before. Connected on the center of the handlebar, it has a wire and is powered. It has a transparent lid that seem to make it rain proof. But no USB cable or connections inside. Is this wireless charging? I imagine it was BMW original part. However, the space is too short for my cellphone, so was thinking about cutting of parts of the edge under the frame of the lid to make more room. Anyone know what this is?

A few general comments for you, because I don't have a C650 Sport myself (but I did test ride one, some years back, and I do have a brand new C 400 GT):

==> BMW, on its motorcycles, has for many years used sockets that were similar -- but narrower than -- cigarette-lighter style sockets. These sockets and their corresponding male plugs are variously known as BMW, DIN, Hella, Powerlet, or even John Deere sockets.

Your C650 seems to use that sort of socket, based on some parts fiche searching I just did at the Max BMW site (and, as I say, this has been, to my knowledge, standard practice on BMW bikes for many years now, and is also the case with my 2022 400 scoot). Here's a screen grab I took of one page there:

If all this is the case, i.e., your problem with your old regular cigarette-lighter-sized USB adapter is that it doesn't physically fit in the smaller BMW socket, then you will need to buy a different adapter. I believe BMW dealers sell such a BMW product, or you can just shop at Amazon or other electronics suppliers.

For instance, if you go to Amazon and enter a search of, say, din to usb adapter you will get a bunch of hits, such as this one (which actually mentions BMW in its product name):

==> Now, regarding that phone case issue you describe:

1) Pics would certainly help. Can you post some pics of the case?

2) If it's a wireless-charging case, it will usually have a circular area that the phone rests against, in order to do the charging. And, if it's wireless, as you note it will not have any USB cable. Does the case have this typical circular area for charging?

I can fit any standard 12 volt USB charger plug into my 2016 Sport 12 volt socket (in the left storage cubby). Did you check the fuse? Also, a PO may have used/rerouted the wire for the cubby-port to power her weird cellphone holder. Just a thought.

Thanks! Yes the cigarette lighter USB 12V adapter (from my previous scooter) fits nicely. Was wondering if it fits, does that mean that it should work? Or perhaps I need a special BMW adapter regardless of whether it fits or not? And yes, was worried that the power cable could have been rerouted as you say for that weird cellphone holder. Anyway I should check the fuse yeah.

My worry is I got a limited 3 month guarantee from the used-vehicle purchase, and if I am going to complain about something broken I should do it soon before time runs out. Also it's a long ride to another city (3 hours each way) so I would prefer to not contact them actually. Perhaps in worst case it could be something cheap my local service store can fix and not too expensive. If it was indeed a reroute then it wouldn't be "broken" per definition as it was sold as shown.

Actually I don't mind a good long trip on this maxi scooter but it doesn't fit well at the moment in a busy schedule with work and family.
