As you described, the oil was black. But I found no metal shavings.
It's probably good that you changed yours early. I'd rather do that than keep it too long.
Such are the mysteries of the German motorcycling mind. I don't know your answer. But if you follow BMW's chain rail guidelines, which is a new rail every 15,000 miles to maintain proper tension, you can't swap out the rails without draining the oil. So it's kind of built-in that chain oil will...
Correct on the first part, 24k miles. The service manual says drop the exhaust manifold to access the drain plug, but a poster on this forum had a workaround. I copied it and pasted it below.
Photo shows drain and fill plugs. Neither is easy to access.
FORUM WORKAROUND, WITH MY NOTES:
GEAR...
SH39 looks like it was designed for the bike. It also provides a protective buffer for the delicate tail lights, which apparently can snap off if you look at them sideways. That happened to the previous owner who replaced one to the tune of $184 USD.
Found a handy tip on this forum that I...
Sounds overfilled. I have 250 ml in my notes. 75W90. Although the service schedule says 24,000 miles for gear box oil. Did you drop the exhaust manifold or figure out a workaround? I know accessing this oil is not easy.
I changed my chain rail at 15,000 miles and used 500 ml of 75W90 oil for that.
The original post is almost two years old. The poster hasn't been seen here since January 2024 (click on a person's name to see this info).
So you can pretty much wait until Jesus returns and you won't get an answer from that guy.
I can say I've purchased two Motoparty windscreen extenders...
Btw, if anyone is looking at Shad vs.GIVI (pronounced Gee-Vee; I called their HQ long ago to verify ;o), my two cents is that Shad offers WAY better build quality.
I just bought a '22 CE 04 that came with a Shad case. The difference between that and GIVI is night and day. GIVI seems like cheap...
Great thread, thanks!
I've owned a '22 CE 04 for two weeks. Absolutely love it but still learning the ropes of amps and volts.
Photo shows the J1772 cable that came with the bike. Takes three to four hours to charge from 40% to 100% by plugging into my household socket.
There are free...
Not just one "little guy" but three in seven paragraphs.
A C 650 GT is a 575-lb. mid-size motorcycle. A 400 GT might be a "little guy," but even that is a stretch. A Burgman 200 would qualify.
For comparison, the GT's weight is within striking distance of a '25 BMW R 1250 RT. Google up a...
Lo and behold, I just conjured up a map on my TFT screen! (TFT = Thin Film Transistor, just AI'd it).
Your tip to connect the phone with the bike and then open the Motorrad app ALMOST worked. But when I clicked on "Map Display" a box popped up saying, "Connected is not active." I guessed...
I've had my '22 CE 04 for a week and a day and still feel like it's the best Christmas present ever.
What an amazing machine.
One thing puzzles me. I have yet to make a map appear on my screen. Is this even possible?
Closest I've come is the plain screen showing direction I'm moving in and...

Cleaning out my garage after six C 650 GT’s. Everything is in excellent condition and fits all model years, unless noted.
Shipping cost depends on order size. $5.00 for smaller items via USPS; $15.00 for medium size via USPS (two-day Priority Mail); $30 for large items via UPS. I have Zelle...
I have a Shad 39 with a passenger backrest. Holds my Schuberth XL 3/4 helmet with plenty of room for gloves, a jacket, etc. The size is aesthetically pleasing, too.
Certainly not in this country. A Brit on the Burgman USA forum posted this recently: "I was in Paris recently where the Burgman and T-max were once kings of traffic and now there were loads of CE-04 about."
I love it more every day. Already sure I will never buy another gas-powered motorcycle...
That sounds like a great combination. You may have had your GT for a run on Route 3 through the High Peaks, which remains the best road for motorcycling I've ever been on.
I lucked out. The orange/black bench seat was on the bike. Seller provided an OEM heated black/gray hump seat in a box, unused. I tried the black/gray and couldn't stretch my legs out with the hump. I hate feeling cramped on a bike (I'm 6'1) so I'll ride with the orange/black.
I may sell the...
Just bought a gorgeous 2022 BMW CE 04. Here's my tale ....
Five weeks ago, I went down for the first time. Never had a close call in 45 years. Then a guy jumps into my lane during low speed, rush hour traffic and it was move or get hit. With the sudden change in direction and deceleration, I...
