Hello - I'm picking up a 2023 CE04 tomorrow. Being a 2023 leftover that's probably been at the dealership for a while, is there anything that I should look for or any test I should ask for? It has the comfort and premium package and the quick charger.

If I were buying a CE-04 I'd look for ... more range. But that's me, whereas most of the CE-04 owners here seem pretty happy with their purchase, so I guess it depends on the use-case.

Seriously:

1) I'd check to make sure the tires are inflated properly, given how long it's been sitting around.

2) I suggest that you offer to meet @triangletom maybe halfway -- perhaps Greensboro -- and buy him a nice lunch, and ask his advice on all matters related to CE-04 ownership. He's a member in your neck of the woods, with world-class knowledge, road-trip and other experience, and tremendous patience (or so it seems to me) in seeking out and then availing himself of working charging stations in NC.

Congrats on your purchase, and happy motoring.

I bought my 2023 CE 04 back in July with just over 300 miles on it, so probably a pretty similar scenario. I was a bit concerned about any degradation of the traction battery due to sitting around not doing much for nearly a year, but that concern turned out not to be an issue as range has been good, i.e. as I expected from reviews and the manufacturers own claims. Beyond a thorough look over to make sure it all looks in good shape, there is probably not much to check, for example wear on brakes is likely to be near to zero. Mine was previously owned by Motorrad UK who loan them to their execs short-term as a perk of the job, and like yours, has all the bells and whistles.

One thing I was careful to make sure was that I had the hard-copy manual, as this records stuff like the pre-delivery check, the running in check at 300-750 miles and so-forth. Motorrad will have all this stuff recorded electronically, but good to have the book itself in case you decide to sell at a later date. TBH it’s perhaps the best owners manual I have ever come across and somewhat of a novelty to have such a thing in non-digital form for an EV.

I would guess you will need a charge cable? I think you will get the slow plug into the mains type charger with the bike, but if you plan to charge ‘on the go’ a different cable will be needed. Since I’m UK based, you’d probably be better advised by someone Stateside on this front…

Enjoy!

Having the Quick/Fast charger circuit is good, but ask the dealership to check the 12 volt battery health, (that’s up near the seat behind the R) side cover), l’ve had mine for 18 months/18,000 km and last month the integrated charging module failed. The dealership blamed the 12v battery for being low for the ICM failure. Cost them $6,000 Australian to replace, they say.

This was good advice. I didn’t ask for them to test it but they did anyway and noticed that it is low. BMW is shipping a new one and I’ll get it replaced at no cost.

tdhickey- if the dealership is willing to carry it out at no charge , I would ask them to renew the brake fluid. It should be done every 2 years anyway. If you're not there already, you will be soon.

Have them check the rear shock setting. I've yet to do that on mine but Lord willing hopefully there's some adjustment to make it a softer to ride for my tailbone. There's a site https://www.wunderlichamerica.com/
That sells a rear rack to move the BMW Vero trunk further back so it doesn't take up a third of the backseat, if you elect to buy the trunk. I'm not impressed with the BMW windshield even with a lip extender, so I would suggest you look aftermarket and check this site for other reviews. Yes, ensure it has the built-in fast charger so you can take it to a level 2 charging station. That's very important that it has that feature I feel.

I do like the little side bag that goes on the right side of the bike. It doesn't take up a lot of room and I got the dark brown color one. I think to match my dark gray color paint. But if you get that trunk relocation bracket, I don't think you can use that side bag.

Thinking I saw somewhere on a site that maybe BMW now makes some bracket. You can put on those rear turn signals to help protect them so they don't get broken off. Maybe someone else on the forum can advise.

My seat came with a little hump in the middle which actually helps so I can put my ass on there if I go over pumps so the bumps aren't so hard on my back. Though with my Vero trunk and with the standard BMW mounting hardware I can actually slide myself back and rest against the trunk when I'm actually riding the motorcycle.

Enjoy your new ride. I wish I had checked with some other dealers for a lower price than what I paid.

I believe it's suggested that you only charge it to 80% unless you know you're going on a really long ride and you need more juice and the battery pack and once it gets down to like 20%, charge it as well if you're doing local riding. But if you're going on a long ride, you may not have that luxury and you'll get back home below 10%

From my reading, I don't think that BMW makes such brackets, but there is an independent European company that appears to have addressed this issue: https://bmwelectricmotorrad.myshopify.com/products/bmw-taillight-protector-us-model

See this thread, for instance:

Do you know what site the rear tail light Strengthen was mentioned or country Dealership.
I sent a message to BMW store in Vancouver Canada Hoping to find info.
I just received my new mirrors from Italy.
The vision is so perfectly clear it’s like I have never seen before on my BMW MC over many years. Like a new pair of prescription glasses. Yellow is a little wild 😜 but so is the CE 04
