I went for a ride a couple of days ago (I almost never ride on weekends -- more back-road traffic -- and I was out of town anyway this weekend) on my '23 C 400 GT (counter-clockwise):

And here's a VERY SHORT snippet from that ride:

Interesting, "you learn something new every day."

Glanced at your map and saw Woodstock on the bottom. Never knew exactly where that was, just out your way somewhere. A little research and I learn the actual music festival wasn't held in Woodstock. It was in Bethel NY, 60 miles southwest, where there is now a beautiful music venue and museum on the original event site. Wonder how many people made the pilgrimage to Woodstock only to learn, "Yeah, that didn't happen anywhere near here." That number now includes me, at least virtually. Either way, sure looks like nice country to ride in.

Well, pretty much everyone around here knows that the festival was in Bethel ...

... at Max Yasgur's farm there.

Bethel is a little too far from Albany for my riding day-trips, but I often go by, or through, or lunch at, Woodstock itself. The area surrounding Woodstock -- the town -- is full of wonderful back roads; I'll get around to uploading a video or two, during that part of the trip.

Being a hippy freak back then, I certainly would have attended, but at the time I happened to be in the Army ... in Germany. Two or three years ago, I did go (by car) to the museum in Bethel; I was very impressed, found it unexpectedly quite enjoyable, and would certainly recommend a few hours there to anyone of that "certain age" (before we all kick the bucket).

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind if I'm motoring through the area. Years ago, nay, decades ago, I was in San Francisco for photo and video shoots and hustled down to the corner of Haight and Ashbury with considerable excitement. What a letdown. The only memento of the age of hippiedom was a vintage clothing store on the corner. It smelled musty inside.

I was 15 during Woodstock and on the tail end of the hippie movement. By the time I was a junior in high school and growing my hair long, the first thumps of disco were sounding. However, I retained a lifelong admiration and respect for the principles of "do your own thing" and "let your freak flag fly," both in yourself and others.

At 70, I'm growing my hair long again, and man, it feels good and right.
