Hello everyone, I would appreciate any help I could get. I installed a wrong battery model that had the poles reversed. what I needed was the ETX14L and bought the ETX14 by mistake. When the battery was installed (with the cables in the wrong poles), there was a static-like noise. Changed the battery for the correct one but now there is no power. The dashboard doesn't turn and the motorcycle won't start. In a case like this, what would be the first component to be damaged?

Thank you very much in advance.

That would be a fuse - they 'live' near the battery I believe. Look in your owner's manual for more info. Fuses are very cheap and protect the bike's electrical system against shorts and other problems such as this one.

Thanks for answering. It probably did on mine. The panel came back to life and the scooter turns on after replacing the first maxi fuse (30A). The windshield doesn’t move ano no sound comes out when I press the switch. I’ll test the relays.

Good evening,

Cessie76 is right. You need to readjust the windscreen via the OBD plug. But before doing so, remember to check and update the date in ECU/dashboard instrumentation.

If your model is before 2016: Enter in the CIP system (Kombi Windscreen Setting) and use the special menu function.
If your model is from 2016: Enter in the Meter system (MTA Kombi Komb18) and use the special menu function.

It all depends on your budget and what's available in your area. Here are some examples:

You can use an adapter with a dedicated application:
OBD adapters and software

You can use a specially developed tablet:
Stand-alone OBD diagnostic device

You'll also need a permanent charger (preferably a BMW Charger Plus model) with the capacity to maintain a constant 13V voltage during diagnostics. For many special functions, the ECU requires a stable voltage of 13V. And the BMW Charger Plus is specially designed for this:
BMW Motorrad original Battery Charger Plus

In any case, it's a smart buy and a useful investment if you plan to do your own maintenance or periodic services.

Thanks Kiss4u, I'm looking at the OBDLink MX+, and OBD adapter, and the OBDLink app. Would this be enough to reset the code and get the windshield working and without getting the Battery Charger?

Do as Ceesie76 says, Motoscan is an application dedicated to BMW motorcycles and well supported by its developers (see UniCarScan and MotoScan on the previous links).

I can't answer your question about the charger, as it depends on the diagnostic functions. But generally speaking: You can read the data without a charger. You can't set parameters or program reliably without a charger (the ECU needs a continuous voltage of over 13V to write).

You don't have to use the BMW charger plus if you have one capable of holding 13V during diagnostics. You can also try without a charger, as this is not a critical function. But the risk is that the ECU won't register the changes.
