Gday all
today is the day when i say goodbye to my adventures with J. Costa variators.
The one i had installed, has has a fair run of a 20000km and the rollers are buggered as supposed to be.
i have had 25g rollers installed as they do not make heavier. i wish they were more like 25.5g but not enough steel weight can fit into 34mm shells.
Moreover i believe that this upgrade may have caused overheating and destruction of the driven pulley bearing in the lid, causing the nut to unroll and some further shaft damage.
But it was fun, beating MT-09 and MT-10 off the lights and in the mountain twisties ;)
“We shall make C650 great again”, this time with stock variator mk2 and 42g dr pulleys rollers
I have changed my avatar but wont change username.
All in all, the best J.Costa was for T-Max but with heavier 16g pistons.
They are just no good for larger scooters.
All the best

Got it going, with stock variator and 42g sliding rollers by Dr.Pulley.
Wow what a rush, without the buzz.
The only issue left is some skips and struggle in the clutch during the first half-second off the lights.
My guess is that Dr.Pulleys hiT clutch needs a different combo of spring sets. It is engaging at 900 rpm now, and locking completely at 2160 rpms. I am thinking of taking the latter number even higher with a stronger set.
Any proficient hiT 302002 tuners here?

I have re-tuned the Dr.Pulley clutch with excellent results. It took me three tries and the bottom row is the recommended setting I have informed the manufacturer of.
I would advise those who purchase their HiT 302002 product also ask for CS1532407095BL6-5.2Kg included into the package so you set them for the inside springs (aka clutch springs).

Just got hands on my 2nd c650 (gt this time). Before I've had the "sport" version, bought it used with full Akra exhaust and some lighter sliders. That one pulled like crazy, even compared it to big bikes. The gt is lazy, so I've decided to do some mods to it just to waking it up😁. What are your thoughts?

Latest update. After having ridden 10k km with OEM variator and 42g Sliding Rollers by Dr.Pulley, I am more convinced that I would be happier with SR but of the original weight 43g. The slight over-revving I enjoy comes at small price of gearing ratio progress, which I want to speed up a bit. That is probably the least explained concept in CVT tuning which many noobs do not understand, the trade-off between extra torque at higher revs vs slower ratio change with lighter rollers.
The changed roller shape itself is enough to skew the CVT where I want it to be.
At next service, by EoY…
