Installing BMW GPS Mounting Bracket Hardware and BMW Navigator VI/Cradle on 2016 and later C650GT

Good Morning Folks,

I recently bought a 2019 BMW C650GT Maxi-Scooter in Franklin, TN, USA and I’d like to install the BMW GPS Mounting Bracket Hardware and BMW Navigator VI/Cradle which I ordered from Max BMW. I viewed several other discussions on GPS installation on the 2015 and earlier C650GT, however my issue is with the black plastic plate on the top of the steering tree where the BMW GPS mounting bracket hardware is to be installed. The 2015 and earlier models of the C650GT had a silver-colored plastic plate on the top of the steering tree that was attached with a single hex screw, and easily removed accordingly. Unfortunately, the 2016 and later C650GT has a black plastic cover that has NO visible screw(still), top or bottom, to remove it during installation of the GPS GPS mounting bracket hardware. I’ve ordered a BMW shop manual DVD, however, it won’t arrive for at least a few weeks.

Has anybody removed the black plastic cover on top of the steering tree on a 2016 or later C650GT? If so, could you please tell me how you removed it without damaging the cover? Also, if anybody has instructions and/or photos of the BMW GPS mounting bracket hardware installation on a 2016 or later C650GT could you please post them here?

I've attached a photo of the black plastic steering tree cover below. Thanks very much for your assistance.

I have a 2019 GT, as well. Won't be near my Service Manual until this evening but I will take a look for instructions on removing it.

I'd guess it's like the BMW rondel at the rear of the bike between the passenger grips -- carefully pry it up until it pops out.

UPDATE: Service manual DVD only goes up to 2017 so it shows the older cover with a torx bolt. Sorry.

The entire black plastic cover pulls back towards the seat. The BMW NAV cradle is a real pain in the arse to fit - I ended up getting the dealer to do it at my next service. It is the only scooter work/mod that has ever stuffed me!
 
Speaking of the BMW Nav unit, I just bought a 2013 C 650 with the GPS installed. Can BMW update this unit with new maps? Has anyone had it done and what did they charge to do it?

I Pick up a 2016 C650 GT on Wednesday and plan to install the Garmin 660 Sat Nav from my old bike. I will need to remove that central steering bar cover to find the switched power supply. Would be grateful if anyone has any pictures see what it looks like under there and how to identify the feed. Thanks.
 
I added the BMW GPS mount a few years ago on my 2019 C650GT. Be VERY careful with the BMW mounting bracket. Secure it with a piece of string while installing it or some other safety feature that ensures it DOES NOT get dropped down in the the "black hole" of the scooters frame! Do NOT drop it in there! You may never find it. I know...LOL!

I like this forum but I do agree about the picture size limitation.

Now I'm a proud owner of a 2021 c650GT, and also should liké to install an Android Auto device. All the help and advice, from your previous expériences, would be much appreciated.
