Hi everyone, I have a bmw c 650 GT it sat for 2 weeks without riding it, Got on today wouldn’t start battery dead, jumped it and rode it for 20 mins , ran fine , I figured I would let run for a while , put it on center stand and let run for 30 mins , came outside to to find a puddle of coolant and red triangle on cluster , anyone know what this means or what could it be? Or how to fix this problem Thank you

C 400 GT owner here, but I have a few thoughts, even if we have different bikes:

1) Do you know whether your fan works?

I’m assuming that your 650 has a radiator fan, like my 400 does.

I performed this experiment once on the 400: if I leave it idling on the centerstand in the garage for some time, the coolant temp will eventually get to 212, the fan will kick in, and the fan will stop running when the temp gets down to 202. And this process then repeats, as the temp rises again.

If something similar occurs on the 650s, and your fan/temp sensor/wiring has a problem, it seems to me that the bike would overheat eventually, and you then might get a coolant puddle from the overflow tank’s overflowing.

2) Alternators generally don’t put out much juice at idle, typically barely enough to run a bike, its headlight, etc.

If you’re trying to charge a battery, you’d be much better off actually riding the bike or, better yet, hooking up a Battery Tender or similar smart/float charger/maintainer, IMO.

Good luck with your troubleshooting, and here’s hoping some 650 owners chime in here.
